  • Patent number: 5585434
Abstract: Disclosed is a composition comprising, by weight, (a) about 94% to about 30% of a graft copolymer comprising a backbone of a propylene polymer material having graft polymerized thereto monomers that form grafted copolymers or terpolymers, the monomers being selected from the group consisting of (i) styrene and acrylonitrile, and (ii) styrene and maleic anhydride, or alpha-methylstyrene, styrene and maleic anhydride, wherein the grafted copolymers or terpolymers formed from (i) or (ii) are present in an amount of about 10 to about 95 pph of propylene polymer material, (b) about 5% to about 40% of at least one aromatic polycarbonate, and (c) about 1% to about 15% of at least one aliphatic polyester. The composition optionally also comprises about 5% to about 20% of one or more rubber components, about 1% to about 50% of a propylene polymer material, or both.

  • Patent number: 5324755
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions comprising, (a) a propylene polymer material grafted in the solid state with (i) styrenic polymer and further comprising (ii) ungrafted styrenic polymer, and, optionally (iii) a vinyl comonomer and when the optional vinyl comonomer is used, (iv) styrenic-vinyl copolymer; and (b) glass fibers treated with an organic silane compound; and optionally (c) at least one rubber polymer component comprising (1) from about 0 to 100% of at least one of (i) monoalkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon-conjugated diene block copolymers, (ii) hydrogenated products of (i), or (iii) mixtures of (i) and (ii); and (2) from about 100 to 0% of an olefin copolymer rubber; and (d) a coupling agent for the glass fibers and propylene polymer material plus said rubber polymer. The compositions exhibit a preferred balance of stiffness and impact strength at moderate cost and exhibit excellent surface qualities, making them particularly useful in molded parts.

  • Patent number: 5290856
Abstract: Disclosed are resin compositions comprising (a) a polyphenylene ether resin or a polyamide resin or a polyester resin; (b) a glycidyl moiety-styrenic grafted propylene polymer material in combination with a styrenic polymer copolymerized with a glycidyl moiety; optionally (c) (1) one or more monoalkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon-conjugated diene block copolymers, hydrogenated products thereof or mixtures thereof, with or without (2) olefin copolymer rubber; and optionally (d) a propylene polymer material. The compositions exhibit increased resistance to delamination, indicating improved compatibility between the engineering resins and propylene polymer material.
