  • Patent number: 12111143
Abstract: A simulated round of ammunition is configured so that it can be inserted into an actual or simulated firearm just like a regular live round of ammunition. The simulated round of ammunition includes elements that enable the simulated round of ammunition to generate a haptic effect that mimics the forces one would feel when firing a regular round of live ammunition. The simulated round of ammunition can include a linear motor, a voice coil or some other similar device which can cause a movable member to move in response to application of electric power. Movements of the movable member are used to generate the haptic effect. In some instances, the movable member may be configured to impact a mechanical stop to help generate the haptic effect.

  • Publication number: 20240286029
Abstract: A disclosed system includes a computing device that generates a virtual reality simulation, a head mounted display worn by a user, and a peripheral device having a haptic actuator. The system is configured to generate an immersive simulation experience for a user of the system and to control and update the virtual reality simulation based on detected motion of the peripheral device and signals generated by the peripheral device in response to user input to the peripheral device. The peripheral device includes a trigger that causes the haptic actuator to generate haptic reaction forces/impulses in response to actuation of the trigger, with actuation of the trigger further influencing the virtual reality simulation. The peripheral device includes first and second grips and is configured to be held by one hand of a user holding the first grip or by two hands of the user holding the first and second grips.

  • Publication number: 20240247904
Abstract: A haptic effect system for generating haptic effects includes components that are configured to be mounted to an actual firearm. Elements of the haptic effect system are configured to occupy at least a part of the space that would otherwise be occupied by elements of the actual firearm. The haptic effect system converts an actual firearm capable of firing live ammunition into a firearm simulator. The haptic effect system generates haptic effects that cause a user holding the firearm to feel forces that mimic or simulate what a user would feel when performing various actions with the firearm. In some instances, an adaptor plate is used to secure the haptic effect system to the body of the actual firearm.
