  • Publication number: 20190376661
Abstract: A vehicle lamp assembly comprising a lamp housing, a light source, a lens, and a bezel. The light source is attached to and supported by the lamp housing and the lens is spaced from the light source. The lens is attached to and supported by the bezel. The lamp housing, lens, and/or bezel include a wall with one or more perforated areas that are defined by a micro mesh of holes. Each hole in the micro mesh has a cross-sectional area that is less than 0.3 square millimeters. The micro mesh of holes provides airflow through the vehicle lamp assembly to reduce or eliminate the build-up of condensation inside the vehicle lamp assembly. The micro mesh of holes may be backlit or arranged in a pattern to enhance aesthetics or create a logo on the vehicle lamp assembly.

  • Patent number: 7777405
Abstract: A vehicle headlight (12) that employs a plurality of LED units (38) that emit white light. Each LED unit (38) employs chip-on-board technology where LED semiconductor chips (64) are mounted directly to a submount substrate (56) using solder or stud bumps (60). An elongated lens (28) is molded over the LED unit (38) in contact with a base substrate (48). Light emitted from the semiconductor chip (64) is reflected and directed by the lens (28) to generate a beam of light (58). Some of the light emitted from the LED semiconductor chip (64) is redirected back to the submount substrate (56) to be reflected back into the lens (28) to increase the light intensity of the LED unit (38). Several of the elongated lens (28) and associated LED units (38) are optically glued to a single prism (24) that collects all of the light beams from all of the LED units (38).

  • Patent number: 7374322
Abstract: A center high mounted stop lamp (12) including a plurality of LEDs (34) mounted on a printed circuit board (30). TIR lenses (40) are employed to focus the light from the LEDs (34) to give an even lighting appearance. The TIR lenses (40) include a prism (44) for directing the light in a desired direction. The circuit board (30) and lenses (40) are mounted in a housing (18) so that each LED (34) includes a separate lens (40) configured relative thereto to provide the desired collection and reflectance of the light. The housing (18) includes a plurality of posts (70) that extend through openings (48, 50) in the circuit board (30) and the lenses (40) to align the LEDs (34) to the lenses (40) relative to the housing (18).

  • Patent number: 7325955
Abstract: An LED headlamp assembly for a vehicle. The headlamp assembly includes a plurality of LED units mounted to a common carrier, where the LED units include one or more LEDs and generate white light. The headlamp assembly further includes a headlamp housing that is mounted to the vehicle by a mounting frame. The carrier is sealed to the housing by a flexible bellows. An outer lens is mounted to the housing so that the LED units are positioned within a sealed compartment. A backside of the carrier outside of the sealed compartment includes fins or other heat sinking devices to remove heat generated by the LED units. The frame allows convective air to flow around the heat sink to remove heat from the LED units. A series of actuators and/or pivots are mounted to the frame and to the carrier so that the carrier can be moved on at least one axis to adjust the direction of the LED headlamp assembly.

  • Patent number: 6027237
Abstract: The present invention discloses an air duct for directing air onto an optical fiber bundle coupling. The air duct is used to siphon a portion of an air stream, which is used to cool an arc lamp, to the coupling end of the light guide bundle. After the air from the air duct cools the coupling of the light guide bundle, the air is routed back to provide additional cooling to the arc lamp.
