The method can include receiving information associated with a thing in view of an augmented reality (AR) device. The thing can be a physical object or a virtual element, such as text on a screen or a web page. The method can further include identifying the object or thing based on the information, identifying virtual content associated with the object or thing, determining that the AR device is permitted to receive at least a portion of the virtual content, transmitting the virtual content to the AR device based on the determining, and causing the AR device to display the virtual content. The ability of a user to view the virtual content associated with the object or thing can further be limited by an authentication process or access level.
