Patent number: 12004946Abstract: Described embodiments are directed toward prosthetic valves having a support structure and at least one leaflet. The leaflet comprises means for allowing fluid that is behind the leaflet to pass through to the front of the leaflet when the leaflet is not in the closed position. The prosthetic valve includes a leaflet moveable between an open position that permits antegrade flow through the prosthetic valve and a closed position that prevents regurgitant flow through the prosthetic valve, the leaflet having an aperture or gap, or a separation of portions of the leaflet to allow a flow or exchange of fluid between a front and back of the leaflet, when the leaflet is not in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2021Date of Patent: June 11, 2024Assignee: EDWARDS LIFESCIENCES CORPORATIONInventors: Kyle W Colavito, Dustin V Dienno, Logan R Hagaman, Cody L Hartman, Sudeep Sastry

Publication number: 20240156593Abstract: Various features and associated advantages are described for diametrically adjustable support structures, adjustable valve structures, removable/replaceable valve structures, and associated systems and methods. Although some examples are directed toward prosthetic valve that is a conduit having a valve structure, or a “valved conduit” (e.g., used to replace a pulmonary valve and a portion of the corresponding pulmonary artery or an aortic valve and the aortic root), and other examples are directed toward prosthetic valves implanted native valve orifices (e.g., to replace an aortic or mitral valve), the features and advantages of the structures associated with those examples are interchangeable regardless of a particular application for which the examples are described.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 22, 2024Publication date: May 16, 2024Inventors: Kyle W. Colavito, Dustin V. Dienno, Paul D. Goodman, Brandon C. Hedberg, Brandon A. Lurie, Devin M. Nelson

Publication number: 20220338980Abstract: Described embodiments are directed toward prosthetic valves having leaflets that move asymmetrically in that in the fully open position, the leaflet first side region opens less than the leaflet second side region. Asymmetric opening and final open position, in synchrony with the other leaflets having similar motion and final open position creates spiral flow exiting the open valve that may, among other things, increases blood flow on the downstream side of the leaflet and thus reduces stagnation of the blood that might lead to thrombus formation. Controlled asymmetric movement of the leaflet reduces closing volume by initiating closure on the leaflet first side region and finishing closures on the leaflet second side region.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 10, 2020Publication date: October 27, 2022Inventors: Kyle W. Colavito, Michael J. Shepard
