Abstract: A method of performing data communication with a terminal and a receiver using the same enables viewing of a broadcast program and a video program of an external device outside the home. The method includes steps of receiving a control signal from a terminal via a network, the control signal including a request signal identifying a specific video program; processing, in response to the received control signal, the specific video program according to characteristic information of the terminal; and transmitting the processed video program to the terminal via the network. The characteristic information for the terminal may or may not be included in the control signal, since a system controller of the receiver may access a user information storage unit to retrieve terminal characteristic information indicating the appropriate format conversion for the terminal.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for setting a language in a television receiver enable one language setting operation performed in a first menu, corresponding to one of a plurality of language-specific functions, to automatically set a preferred language for one or more other functions. The method includes steps of setting a language in a first menu according to a user selection, the first menu corresponding to one function of a plurality of language-specific functions; and automatically setting a language of at least one other function of the plurality of language-specific functions to the language set according to the user selection, the language of the at least one other function being set interoperably with the first menu. Thus, if at least one language is selected in the first menu, a language of at least one other function is set to the first-menu language.

Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for rapidly and exactly searching an electronic program guide (EPG) for a desired program. Even when only a program search command is input, program representative titles detected from an EPG are display in a sequential order based on a user command (e.g., in hangeul consonant order or alphabetical order). Therefore, a program search screen can be more easily recognized.

Abstract: A method of sorting broadcast channels and a display device using the same enables a sorted broadcast channel search list to be edited for use in channel searching.

Abstract: A control method and a control system for a home network system in a multi-user environment are disclosed. The control system includes a plurality of slave devices, a user ID receiver receiving user ID data from a user, and a master device coupled to the slave devices for operation control. The master device includes a memory and a controller coupled to the memory and the user ID receiver. The memory initially prestores user-specific control settings preset by a plurality of preregistered users and user ID data of the preregistered users. Then, the controller authenticates the user upon receiving the user ID data from the user ID receiver, and it automatically controls operational functions of the slave devices according to the user-specific control settings of the authenticated user, which is extracted from the memory.

Abstract: A projection display device that is more compactly composed as compared with a conventional device by reducing the total width of a device, that is, the length between the rear of outer case and screen. The projection display device comprises an optical engine for projecting a light beam; a projection lens for magnifying and projecting the light beam projected by the optical engine; a reflection mirror for reflecting the light beam, magnified and projected through the projection lens, on the full screen of a screen; a screen for realizing an image using the light beam reflected by the reflection mirror; and a lower cabinet for supporting the screen, wherein a part of the optical engine mounted in the lower cabinet is protruded by a predetermined length in front as compared with the screen.
