Abstract: A method and system for providing a picture as caller ID (Identification). In a mobile communication system having a first mobile station (MS) on a calling side, a second MS on a called side, and a base station (BS) and an MSC that enable communication between the first and second MSs, the MSC has a storage component that stores picture information of each MS. The MSC receives a SETUP message from the first MS via the BS during a call attempt by the first MS, checks whether the picture information of the first MS is stored in the storage component in response to the SETUP message, and transmits the picture information of the first MS to the second MS so that the picture information of the first MS can be displayed as the caller ID on a display of the second MS, if the picture information of the first MS is stored in the storage component of the MSC.

Abstract: A call admission method considering call characteristics and the service level of a subscriber terminal in a CDMA mobile communication system is provided. When a new call is requested in a situation where it cannot be admitted, a call being serviced with a lower service level than the new call is held for admission of the new call. If the held service can be resumed under some circumstances, it is resumed.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for transmitting packet data and side information including a sequence number of the packet data in a CDMA mobile communication system employing a HARQ scheme for performing retransmission in response to a retransmission request message after initial transmission. The method comprises transmitting the packet data and the side information over a dedicated channel during the initial transmission; and transmitting the packet data and the side information over a common channel during the retransmission. The dedicated channel is a dedicated physical channel (DPCH), and the common channel is a physical downlink shared channel (DSCH).

Abstract: A method and apparatus for retransmitting data in a mobile communication system wherein a receiver determines whether an initial data block received from a transmitter has an error. Upon detecting an error from the initial data block, the receiver estimates a current channel state and determines a retransmission frequency and a power level of the initial data block according to the estimated current channel state. Thereafter, the receiver transmits a retransmission request message of the initial data block together with the determined retransmission frequency and the determined power level to the transmitter. The transmitter retransmits the initial data block as many times as the retransmission frequency at the requested power level. The receiver then determines whether the retransmitted data blocks have errors, and provides the retransmitted data blocks to an upper layer upon failure to detect errors from the retransmitted data blocks.

Abstract: A method selecting a RACH comprises determining an access service class (ASC) associated with a unique access class of a user equipment (UE) by analyzing a radio resource control (RRC) message received from a UTRAN (UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) Terrestrial Radio Access Network); receiving mapping information from the UTRAN; analyzing ASCs and scrambling codes to be used for available RACHs associated with each of the ASCs based on the received mapping information; mapping the analyzed scrambling codes to scrambling code groups associated with the ASCs; selecting a scrambling code group associated with the determined ASC; and selecting one of the scrambling codes using a total number of the scrambling codes mapped to the selected scrambling code group and a unique identifier of the UE.

Abstract: A method for broadcasting channel information, available channel and data rate of a base station in a CDMA communication system. The base station receives information indicating that a mobile station has data to transmit, over an access preamble channel. The base station transmits use status information of physical channels and maximum available data rate information on a status indicator channel.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for indicating an end of transmitting data frames in order to enable a UTRAN (UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) Terrestrial Radio Access Network) to assign a common packet channel to another user equipment (UE) in a UE for a CDMA mobile communication system. The UE requests assignment of any one of a number of common packet channels assignable in the UTRAN; the UE is assigned a common packet channel by the UTRAN in response to the to request; the UE sequentially transmits the data frames and their associated control frames over the assigned common packet channel; and the UE transmits at least one control frame, in an appointed field of which a given bit pattern appointed with the UTRAN is registered, in order to inform the UTRAN of an end of data transmission upon completing data transmission through the data frames.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for assigning a channel to a UE by a UTRAN in a CDMA communication system. The UTRAN receives a selected one of a plurality of access preamble signatures from the UE, and selects one of a plurality of channel assignment signatures associated with the received access preamble signature in order to assign one of a plurality of physical common packet channels (PCPCHs) unused in the UTRAN. The UTRAN selects one of the access preamble signatures depending on a maximum data rate required when the UE transmits data. Further, the UTRAN selects one of the unused PCPCH channels depending on the received access preamble signature and the selected channel assignment signature.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for controlling a paging alert level of a mobile station in a mobile communication system. A base station sets information of a type and a level of a paging alert tone of the mobile station in a broadcasting channel (BCH) message and transmits the BCH message to every mobile station within a cell of the base station. The mobile station then generates a paging alert tone according to the information of the type and the level of the paging alert tone, included in the received BCH message.

Abstract: A method for generating an incoming ring from a handset in response to an incoming call from only a selected one of base stations, in which the handset is registered for its operation, in a digital cordless telephone system. The digital cordless telephone system includes a plurality of base stations, and a handset operating while being registered at the base stations, the handset comprises a memory adapted to store a plurality of ring generation data respectively associated with a plurality of base stations, a central processing unit adapted to read the content of the memory when an incoming call is generated from one of the base stations, thereby identifying whether or not the memory is stored with ring generation data associated with the base station generating the incoming call, and a tone generator adapted to generate a ring tone associated with the identified ring generation data under the control of the central processing unit.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for selectively calling a mobile station by generating a ring signal at only a selected mobile station from among a plurality of mobile stations registered with a private base station. A ring signal is transmitted to only the selected mobile station so that an external subscriber of a public switched telephone network (PSTN) can communicate with a subscriber of the selected mobile station.
