  • Patent number: 10915080
Abstract: Disclosed are a communication method between a master controller and slave controllers, a slave controller for the communication method, and a battery management system using the communication method and the slave controller, in which the master controller receives safety information about battery cells through a plurality of channels even when each of a plurality of slave controllers includes only one micro controller unit, thereby minimizing the increase in the cost and enhancing the safety of the battery management system. The communication method includes performing bidirectional communication between a master controller and first to Nth (where N is an integer equal to or more than two) slave controllers through a first communication channel, and receiving, by the master controller, an indication signal through a second communication signal via the first to Nth slave controllers.

  • Publication number: 20200292404
Abstract: An apparatus and a method of detecting liquid leakage within a battery pack using a gyro sensor and a moisture detecting sensor. When liquid leakage of a coolant is detected, such as when a pipe of a coolant supplied for cooling (radiating heat) within a battery pack is damaged, the apparatus recognizes a liquid leakage generation position according to a slope of the battery pack by using a gyro sensor and determines whether the liquid leakage is generated based on a difference in a temperature between an upper side and a lower side of a corresponding region by using moisture detecting sensors, thereby improving accuracy of the detection of the liquid leakage according to the slope and the position of the battery pack. Particularly, the moisture detecting sensor is operated to be on only when the detection of the liquid leakage is required, thereby preventing unnecessary energy consumption.

  • Publication number: 20200209321
Abstract: An apparatus, a battery system and a method for controlling a main battery and a sub battery. The apparatus includes a first main switch connectable between the main battery and an electrical load, a second main switch connectable between the sub battery and the electrical load, a sub switch connectable between the main battery and the sub battery, a main battery management system and a sub battery management system. The main battery management system transmits a first diagnosis message to the sub battery management system, when a fault of the main battery is detected. The sub battery management system induces the second main switch into a turn on state, in response to the first diagnosis message.
