    Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting speech segments of a speech signal processing device is provided. A critical band is divided into a certain number of regions according to noise frequency characteristics, a signal threshold and a noise threshold are set for each of the regions, and it is determined whether each frame is a speech segment or noise segment by comparing the log energy calculated for each region to the corresponding signal threshold and noise threshold. Therefore, a speech segment can be detected rapidly and accurately by using a small number of operations even in a noise environment.

    Abstract: A method for determining a threshold value for controlling output power of a mobile communication terminal in a W-CDMA system, includes: calculating a first value by dividing an average energy per a PN chip of downlink DPCCH by a total received power spectral density of downlink; calculating a second value by dividing the total received power spectral density of downlink by a white noise power spectral density; calculating a chip unit SIR by adding the first and second values; and determining a symbol unit threshold value for controlling ON/OFF of terminal output power by adding the chip unit SIR and a processing gain according to the number of chips per symbol. Accordingly, a symbol unit threshold value for controlling output power can be easily determined irrespective of a value of a data rate and a spreading factor.

This may include a process for setting transmit power control commands from each radio link according to quality of each radio link, and a process for setting a combined transmit power control command by confirming whether the transmit power control commands from each radio link are identical for all the radio links. The method for controlling power of the radio links may prevent reduction of reliability of the transmit power control commands in the process for deciding the transmit power control commands from different radio link sets to control the transmit power of the terminal in soft handover.

    Abstract: A method of a root operation for voice recognition and mobile terminal thereof are disclosed, by which an operational speed faster than that of a Taylor series using method can be provided and by which a memory having a size smaller than that of a table using method is needed. The present invention includes the steps of transforming an inputted frame of prescribed bits into a multiplication of a mantissa part having a value equal to or greater than 1 under 1 and an exponential part having an even exponent, finding a root operation value of the mantissa part using both a linear interpolation technique and a table-using technique, finding a rot value of the exponential part, and outputting a multiplication of the mantissa part root value and the exponential part root value as a root value corresponding to the inputted frame of the prescribed bits.
