The first identifier enables a determination of a type of information that is included within the received traffic data. The method also includes determining a type of information included within the received traffic data based on the first identifier and determining encoding information based on the field indicative of an encoding scheme included in the received traffic data only if the first identifier enables a determination that the received traffic data includes a field indicative of an encoding scheme. The method further includes identifying the information that is encoded based on the determined encoding information.

Abstract: The present invention provides a virtual channel table (VCT) data structure, transport stream discrimination method, and digital broadcast receiver, by which streams transferred within a channel can be identified with VCT only by extending a VCT syntax according to PSIP (program and system information protocol) of ATSC (advanced television systems committee) prescribed as a digital TV standard. The present invention adds the additional explanation (component name string) descriptor for the stream to the service location descriptor of the VCT, whereby various streams transferred over one channel can be uniquely identified. Therefore, the present invention enables a user of the digital broadcast receiver to select a stream more quickly.

Then, it is determined whether the scheduled recording times of the broadcasting programs overlap. If the scheduled recording times of the broadcasting programs overlap, information on the overlap is reported to a user.

Abstract: A system and a method for transmitting data contents, which are able to provide a user with various contents by suggesting a standard for data synchronization in a two-way data broadcasting using data contents related between a broadcasting device and the user, comprises a step of classifying predetermined data contents into basic data and additional data, a step of generating synchronizing information according to timing dependencies of basic data and additional data with each other; and a step of transmitting basic data and synchronizing information through the air according to programming information, and thereby a standard for the two-way data broadcasting can be provided.
