Patent number: 9606693Abstract: Techniques for providing multi-user multi-touch projected capacitive touch sensors are disclosed herein. Some embodiments may include a touch sensor including a touch substrate with a touch surface, a sensing array, and a controller. The sensing array may be configured to provide sense signals indicating a first touch and a second touch occurring concurrently on the touch surface of the touch substrate. The controller may be configured to receive the sense signals from the sensing array and based on the sense signals, determine whether the first touch and the second touch share at least one anti-ghost. In response to determining that the first touch and the second touch share the at least one anti-ghost, the controller may be configured associate the first touch and the second touch with a common touch entity, such as an individual person.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2016Date of Patent: March 28, 2017Assignee: ELO TOUCH SOLUTIONS, INC.Inventors: Damien Berget, Kenneth Andrew Feehan, Paul Leonard Futter, David Samuel Hecht, Joel Christopher Kent, Robert William Kitchin, Kenneth John North, James Roney, Kyu-Tak Son, Jung Verheiden, Forrest Kim Wunderlich

Patent number: 9582125Abstract: A capacitive touch sensitive device includes a matrix of pads patterned in a first electrically conductive material on a substrate. Horizontally adjacent pads within each even row of the matrix are electrically coupled to one another via channels to form a plurality of horizontally arranged electrodes. Insulators are positioned over respective channels. Conductive links are formed over respective insulators and are configured to electrically couple vertically adjacent pads between odd rows of the matrix to form a plurality of vertically arranged electrodes. The dimensions of the channels and the conductive links are configured such that an RC time-constant (RCtc) of each of the vertically arranged electrodes substantially matches an RCtc of each of the horizontally arranged electrodes.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2013Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: ELO TOUCH SOLUTIONS, INC.Inventors: Kyu-Tak Son, Joel C. Kent

Patent number: 9507464Abstract: Systems and related methods providing for touch sensors using high sensitivity Lamb waves are disclosed herein. A touch apparatus may include a substrate having a front surface and a back surface, where the touch region is on the front surface. The touch apparatus may be configured to propagate surface acoustic waves on at least a portion of the back surface and high sensitivity lamb waves, such as near-longitudinal-resonance Lamb waves, in at least a portion of the touch region of the substrate. The touch system may further include circuitry configured to determine a location of a touch on the front surface based on received attenuations in the high sensitivity Lamb waves. Some embodiments may provide for bezel-less touch sensor designs and anti-dispersion techniques that enhance touch sensor reliability.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2013Date of Patent: November 29, 2016Assignee: Elo Touch Solutions, Inc.Inventors: David S. Hecht, Daniel H. Scharff, Joel C. Kent, Kyu-Tak Son, Masao Takeuchi

Patent number: 9348467Abstract: Surface acoustic waves in a radial pattern are used to detect touch. Different radial transducer arrangements may allow for locating multiple simultaneous touches without ambiguity. Instead of transmitting along a line to be reflected at multiple points, the surface acoustic waves are transmitted radially. The surface acoustic waves are transmitted along different angles in an angular span spread out over at least part of the touch region. Using acoustic waves traveling along intersecting paths, a point location of a touch may be determined by detection, in part, of at least one angle.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2011Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: ELO TOUCH SOLUTIONS, INC.Inventors: Daniel H. Scharff, Joel C. Kent, Kyu-Tak Son
