Abstract: A digital television (DTV) receiver and a decoding method, are discussed. According to an embodiment, the DTV receiver includes: a receiving unit for receiving a digital broadcasting signal including a plurality of extended text tables (ETTs) that appear in transport stream packets having common PID values, each ETT comprising a section header and a message body, wherein the section header contains a table identification extension field that serves to establish uniqueness of each ETT, and wherein the message body includes an extended text message (ETM) which provides detailed descriptions of a virtual channel or an event associated with each ETT; and a program and system information protocol (PSIP) decoder for detecting the table identification extension field to determine uniqueness of each ETT and detecting at least one pertinent ETT from the plurality of ETTs using the determined uniqueness of each ETT.

In the present invention, the extender text tables are identified by processing an ETT section in the same manner as other tables using a value capable of identifying the extender text table sections. Particularly, an event_id is input in a table_id_extension within ETT sections, so that the ETT sections can be identified at a receiving or a transmitting party without parsing the ETT sections.

Abstract: A method for processing a broadcast signal including current event information, and a broadcast receiver for processing the same are disclosed so that a user can correctly recognize information of a current broadcast event provided via a specific channel. The broadcast receiver analyzes each-channel current broadcast event information contained in the broadcast signal, and provides a user with the analyzed result. The user can correctly recognize the current broadcast event information of a specific channel, and the user can more quickly search for the current broadcast event information of the specific channel.

Abstract: A method of processing a digital television signal in a digital television receiver, the method includes receiving a digital television signal including a streaming text table carrying streaming text data representing additional information tramsmitted from a transmitter; parsing the streaming text table, the parsed streaming text table including display information specifying an information type, display time, and display channel associated with the streaming text data; and displaying the streaming text data according to the display information.
