  • Publication number: 20090015574
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display (LCD), a liquid crystal panel includes a plurality of subpixels. Source drivers drive source lines of the liquid crystal panel and gate drivers drive gate lines of the liquid crystal panel. A timing controller generates combination pixel data using current pixel data and previous pixel data, and supplies the generated combination pixel data to the source drivers. The previous pixel data is generated by delaying the current pixel data by a first time period.

  • Patent number: 7436381
Abstract: A source driver circuit provides a source driving signal to a disconnected source line. The source driver circuit includes a shift register, a latch unit, a DAC unit, a buffer unit, and a source line repair circuit. A source line repair circuit receives a common voltage signal and a source driving signal corresponding to the disconnected source line, selects an amplifier having a same polarity type as a polarity type of an amplifier constituting the buffer unit in response to a source driving signal to provide an output signal of the selected amplifier to the disconnected source line. The source driver circuit includes the source line repair circuit which may select the amplifier having the same polarity as the polarity of the amplifier of the buffer, and thus may safely provide the source driving signal to the disconnected source line.

  • Publication number: 20070139349
Abstract: A driving IC for a display device that reduces the number of circuits included in a source driver, thereby decreasing the entire chip area of the driving IC. The driving IC drives a panel including a plurality of pixels whose respective gradations are represented by M-bit gradation data, and includes a memory storing gradation data for representing respective gradations of the plurality of pixels, a multiplexer unit receiving the gradation data from the memory and transmitting the M-bit gradation data through L transmission lines, where L is less than M, and a source driver serially receiving the gradation data through the L transmission lines and sequentially processing the serially received gradation data.

  • Publication number: 20070121395
Abstract: A source driver control device and method. The source driver control device includes a memory, a first write controller, a second write controller and a write clock signal generator. The memory receives display data corresponding to an image and stores the display data in response to a write clock signal. The first write controller generates a first write enable signal in response to a vertical back porch and a horizontal back porch. The second write controller generates a second write enable signal, which is enabled for each write cycle of storing the display data in the memory, in response to the first write enable signal. The write clock signal generator generates the write clock signal in a period in which the second write enable signal is enabled. The write cycle corresponds to a multiple of a reference write cycle. The source driver control device and method can reduce power consumed when the display data is written in the memory.

  • Publication number: 20070046599
Abstract: A display device includes a display panel having a plurality of scan lines and a plurality of data lines, and a plurality of display panel driving apparatuses. Each of the display panel driving apparatuses includes a data line driving circuit, and a plurality of pads via which corresponding gray-scale voltages are respectively output. The data line driving circuit drives corresponding data lines of the plurality of the data lines. Each of the plurality of the pads outputs a corresponding gray-scale voltage of a plurality of gray-scale voltages, wherein the pads of the display panel driving apparatuses are connected in a cascade. The pads of the display panel driving apparatuses may be connected via a flexible printed circuit.

  • Publication number: 20050270263
Abstract: Provided are a source driver and a source line driving method using a gamma driving scheme for a liquid crystal display (LCD) device. The source driver for driving the LCD device encodes serially input red (R), green (G), and blue (B) digital image data during a horizontal scan period, stores the encoded values of the R, G, and B digital image data in a first memory, and turns on or off grayscale voltage amplifiers included in a gamma voltage amplifying unit according to the encoded values stored in the first memory. Accordingly, when an output selecting unit selects a corresponding grayscale voltage output from the gamma voltage amplifying unit, and outputs the selected voltage to each source line, only the amplifiers necessary for driving a liquid crystal panel are turned on.

  • Patent number: 6950045
Abstract: In a gamma correction digital-to-analog converter, one of first gamma correction reference voltage signals is selected as a first corresponding gray scale signal based on lower m+n bits of a k bit digital input signal when upper l bits of the k bit input signal correspond to an upper or lower code set, where k=l+m+n, and where k, l, m and n are integers. A pair of adjacent second gamma correction reference voltage signals is selected from second gamma correction reference voltage signals based on upper l+m bits when the upper l bits correspond to a middle code set, and one is selected from the pair of second gamma correction reference voltage signals and 2n?1 divided signals as a second corresponding gray scale signal, the divided signals being obtained by dividing an interval between the selected pair into 2n levels. The first or second gray scale signal is selected to be output.
