  • Publication number: 20060022578
Abstract: An electron emission device includes a first and a second substrate facing each other, cathode electrodes formed on the first substrate, and electron emission regions connected to the cathode electrodes. Gate electrodes are spaced apart from the cathode electrodes by an interposing insulating layer. Phosphor layers are formed on the second substrate. At least one anode electrode is formed on a surface of the phosphor layers. The electron emission region has a first surface facing the first substrate and a second surface facing the second substrate. The second surface of the electron emission region facing the second substrate is smaller in size than the first surface of the electron emission region facing the first substrate.

  • Publication number: 20060022575
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing an electron emission device, cathode electrodes are first formed on a substrate. An insulating layer is formed on the entire surface of the substrate such that the insulating layer covers the cathode electrodes. The insulating layer is wet-etched two or more times such that openings each with an aspect ratio of more than 1 are formed in the insulating layer. Gate electrodes are formed on the insulating layer. Electron emission regions are formed on the cathode electrodes within the openings of the insulating layer. The respective etchings are conducted using separate mask patterns with the same-sized openings such that under-cuts are made.

  • Publication number: 20050264165
Abstract: An electron emission device adapted to enhanced electron beam focusing and its method of fabrication are shown. The device includes driving electrodes for controlling the emission of electrons from electron emission regions formed on a substrate; two or more tiers of insulating layers formed on the driving electrodes; and a focusing electrode formed over the tiers. A multi-tiered insulating layer allows a thick tier to hold the focusing electrodes away from the emission regions, thus enhancing their focusing impact, while a thin tier under the focusing electrodes remains amenable to intricate patterning. Fabrication of the tiers from material with different etching rates allows thicker lower support tiers to be etched during the same period and in the same step that a thinner upper tier is etched, also allowing openings in a lower tier to widen while openings in the upper tier stay small.

  • Publication number: 20050184645
Abstract: A structure for a field emission device and a method of making the same. The cathode electrodes are formed as a two-layered structure of chromium on top of aluminum. Photosensitive electron emission material is patterned via back side exposing, the aluminum layer serving as a mask. In receptor regions, conducting aluminum fingers form electrical contact with the emission material while spaces between the aluminum fingers serve as a window to allow for exposure of the photosensitive emission material.

  • Publication number: 20050110390
Abstract: A flat panel display having spacers, a method for manufacturing the spacers, and a method for manufacturing the flat panel display. The flat panel display includes a vacuum assembly that includes a first substrate and a second substrate. The first and second substrates are provided opposing one another with a predetermined gap therebetween, and a vacuum state is maintained in the gap between the first and second substrates. A plurality of spacers are mounted between the first substrate and the second substrate. Each of the spacers includes a main body section, and a buffer layer mounted on an end of the main body section opposing one of the first substrate and the second substrate (i.e., an opposing end). The buffer layer fills a space between the opposing end of the main body section of the spacer and the one of the first substrate and the second substrate closest to the opposing end of the main body section of the spacer.

  • Patent number: 6787982
Abstract: A side bar for a flat panel display device is disposed between a faceplate and a backplate of the flat panel display device such that it seals the two plates and maintains a constant gap between the two plates. The side bar includes contacting surfaces confronting the facing surfaces of the faceplate and the backplate, and a paste-receiving groove formed on each contacting surface in a longitudinal direction. The paste-receiving groove is provided with adhesive paste for sealing the faceplate to the backplate. The present invention further provides a side bar which has a getter-receiving groove formed thereon adjacent to the paste-receiving groove. The getter-receiving groove is provided with a getter used for improving the vacuum degree of the flat panel display device. The present invention also encompasses a flat panel display device employing the side bar described above, and a method of manufacturing the side bar for a flat panel display device.

  • Publication number: 20030160932
Abstract: Disclosed is a spacer of a flat panel display (FPD) and a method for preparing the same. The method for preparing a spacer of the present invention includes: (a) exposing a photosensitive glass to a light; (b) heat-treating the exposed photosensitive glass to crystallize it; (c) etching the crystallized glass to prepare the spacer; and (d) heat-treating the spacer under a reductive gas atmosphere. The spacer can be easily prepared by the method according to the present invention, and it has improved conductivity on its surface. A flat panel display including the spacer prepared by the method of the present invention has enhanced conductivity. Therefore, the spacer prevents secondary electron emission, spacer charging, and deviation of electron beams.
