A first conductive tab electrically connects the first conductive terminals of the battery cells to each other, a second conductive tab electrically connects the second conductive terminals of the battery cells to each other, a first conductive external terminal is electrically connected to a side of the first conductive tab and is configured to be electrically connected to an external device, and a second conductive external terminal is electrically connected to a side of the second conductive tab and is configured to be electrically connected to the external device.

Abstract: Disclosed is a secondary battery that enhances the coupling strength between a protection circuit module and a bare cell. The secondary battery includes: a bare cell; and a protection circuit module including a circuit board and at least one coupling member coupling the circuit board to the bare cell by welding, the coupling member including a first coupling portion having a substantially plate-like shape coupled to the bare cell by welding and at least a through-hole formed inside the edge of the first coupling portion.

A PTC device which is a secondary protection device is provided on the protection circuit board, and is installed in electrical connection with an electrode terminal of a bare cell of the secondary battery. According to a structural configuration where the PTC device is electrically connected to the bare cell while being installed on the protection circuit board, the PTC device sensitively responds to temperature changes of the bare cell to thereby cut off a flow of electric current. Due to such a structural configuration of the PTC device, formation of an electrode lead is excluded for electrical connection with the bare cell on the protection circuit board. Consequently, a pattern-forming area which is designed on the protection circuit board increases.

A support portion is formed at one end of a conductive plate of the PTC device, a conductive layer disposed on the upper portion of the PTC main body is fixed to the Protective Circuit Module (PCM), and the support portion is fixed by a coated adhesive that is melted at a high temperature and then hardens when the high temperature is removed, thereby preventing the PTC device from swaying or twisting.
