Abstract: Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs which have been substituted with a nitrogen monoxide group; compositions comprising (i) a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug, which can optionally be substituted with a nitrogen monoxide group and (ii) a compound that directly donates, transfers or releases a nitrogen monoxide group (preferably as a charged species, particularly nitrosonium); and methods of treatment of inflammation, pain, gastrointestinal lesions and/or fever using the compositions are disclosed. The compounds and compositions protect against the gastrointestinal, renal and other toxicities that are otherwise induced by nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs.

Abstract: A method for treating asthma in a patient using an agent selected from the group consisting of:(a) an antibody capable of binding to ELAM-1;(b) a fragment of the antibody (a), the fragment being capable of binding to ELAM-1;(c) ELAM-1, being substantially free of natural contaminants;(d) a functional derivative of ELAM-1;(e) an antibody capable of binding to an ELAM-1 receptor;(f) a fragment of the antibody (e), the fragment being capable of binding to an ELAM-1 receptor;(g) an ELAM-1 receptor, being substantially free of natural contaminants; and .(h) a functional derivative of an ELAM-1 receptor.

Abstract: Disclosed are (i) compounds of a steroid, a .beta.-agonist, an anticholinergic, a mast cell stabilizer and a phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor directly or indirectly linked to a NO or NO.sub.2 group or a group which stimulates endogenous production of NO or EDRF in vivo; (ii) compositions of steroids, .beta.-agonists, anticholinergics, mast cell stabilizers and PDE inhibitors, which can optionally be substituted with at least one NO or NO.sub.2 moiety or a group which stimulates endogenous production of NO or EDRF in vivo, and a compound that donates, transfers or releases nitric oxide as a charged species, i.e., nitrosonium (NO.sup.+) or nitroxyl (NO.sup.-), or as the neutral species, nitric oxide (NO.circle-solid.) or that stimulates endogenous production of NO or EDRF in vivo; and (iii) uses for them in preventing and/or treating respiratory disorders.
