  • Patent number: 6646008
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, it has been discovered that PPAR&ggr; is expressed consistently in tissues associated with each of a variety of disease states which result from neoplastic cell proliferation. It has further been discovered that maximal activation of PPAR&ggr; with exogenous ligand promotes terminal differentiation of primary cells which are otherwise subject to neoplastic cell proliferation. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, it has been discovered that RXR-specific ligands are also potent agents for induction of differentiation of cells expressing the PPAR&ggr;/RXR&agr; heterodimer, and that simultaneous treatment of cells subject to neoplastic cell proliferation with a PPAR&ggr;-selective ligand, in combination with an RXR-specific ligand, results in an additive stimulation of differentiation.

  • Publication number: 20020137794
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, it has been discovered that retinoic acid receptor (RAR) antagonists are capable of modulating processes mediated by other members of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily, including permissive receptors such as PPARs (e.g., PPAR&agr;, PPAR&dgr; and PPAR&ggr;). Indeed, it has been discovered that RAR antagonists, in combination with agonists for members of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily, are capable of inducing and/or enhancing processes mediated by such members.

  • Patent number: 6387673
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, it has been discovered that histone deacetylase associates with hormone receptor complexes and contributes to the repression thereof. It has further been discovered that exposure of a repressed system to histone deacetylase inhibitors relieves this repression. Thus, histone deacetylase inhibitors have been found to be useful for the activation of genes responsive to hormone receptors. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, formulations useful for modulation of hormone-mediated processes have been developed. In addition, assays have been developed for the identification of compounds useful to modulate the above-described processes.

  • Patent number: 4341281
Abstract: A split axle drive mechanism for a part-time four-wheel drive vehicle comprises an automotive type differential which has an input to the differential case and a pair of outputs from the respective side gears. One output is directly connected to its associated side gear so that the associated side gear is always drive connected to one selectively driven vehicle wheel. The other output includes a clutch which is disengaged in the two wheel drive mode (selected at the transfer case) so that the other selectively driven vehicle wheel does not back drive the other side gear. This reduces wear and power consumption in the two wheel drive mode.

  • Patent number: 4222283
Abstract: A transmission having a gravity feed and centrifugal pressure lubricating system. Rotating drive and output gearing throws oil to a primary collector for gravity feed down in a first passage in the housing to a through-bore in the output shaft and for feed upward in a second passage to a blind bore in the input shaft. Rotating high-speed gearing throws oil to a secondary collector for gravity feed in a second passage to the blind bore and then to the through-bore. A plastic disk, having a central aperture smaller than the shaft bores, is fixed and sealed in a chamber between each passage and each bore end. A disk resiliently engages a plastic ferrule in each open bore end to seal the disk to the shaft end to permit gravity flow of oil through the central aperture into the bores and to retain an annular body of oil in the bores during shaft rotation and to centrifuge the oil through radial ports to lubricate the drive gear bearings.

  • Patent number: 4013335
Abstract: An improved construction for a lamp cap suitable for interconnecting the elongated constricted neck of a halogen lamp to an electrode-bearing lamp holder is described. A hollow elongated deformable insert is coaxially positioned within a conventional cover disc of the lamp cap. The interior dimension of the insert is chosen to effect a secure frictional engagement with at least 30% of the length of the constricted lamp neck, and is permanently or removably affixed to the surrounding cover disc. The lamp holder may then be affixed to the composite lamp cap to complete the assembly.
