Remote processing of well tool sensor data and correction of sensor data on data acquisition systems
Patent number: 9417353Abstract: For some embodiments, a software application for correcting sensor data in a remote database (114, 118) according to magnetic correction parameters obtained from a geophysical survey service, the sensor data obtained from directional instruments on a well tool (107, 108, 110). The remote database resides in a field computer (112) at a well site, and a copy of the remote database may also reside in a real time operations computer system. For some embodiments, the sensor data for particular depths and measurement times are stored as rows in a table (FIG. 3). The correction software may write new rows in the remote database with the corrected sensor data, or may write new rows in a second database for storing corrected sensor data (FIG. 1).Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2007Date of Patent: August 16, 2016Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Laban Marsh, Stuart Sargeant, Barry McKay -
Patent number: 9068442Abstract: A string of subs includes a controller sub. The controller sub includes a first end, a second end, a controller, a first controller bus coupled to the controller, the first controller bus exiting at the first end of the controller sub, and a second controller bus coupled to the controller, the second controller bus being separate from the first controller bus, the second controller bus exiting at the second end of the controller sub. The string of subs also includes a first measuring sub and a second measuring sub. A process, running on a computer, discovers that the first measuring sub is connected to the first controller bus, discovers that the second measuring sub is connected to the first controller bus, determines that the first measuring sub is physically closer to the controller sub than the second measuring sub, and use the fact that the first measuring sub is physically closer to the controller sub than the second measuring sub in controlling the operation of the string of subs.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2010Date of Patent: June 30, 2015Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Christopher Golla, Laban Marsh

Publication number: 20070177461Abstract: The specification discloses systems and methods that provide improved capability to detect and decode encoded telemetry data. More particularly, the specification discloses embodiments for detecting and decoding telemetry data by receiving a plurality of waveforms comprising encoded telemetry data. A first set of outputs is detected from the encoded telemetry data using a first set of filtering and detection parameters, and a second set of outputs is detected substantially concurrently from the encoded telemetry data using a second set of filtering and detection parameters. The sets of outputs are merged to produce decoded telemetry data.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 16, 2006Publication date: August 2, 2007Inventor: Laban Marsh

Publication number: 20050268709Abstract: A method of testing a downhole formation using a formation tester on a drill string. The formation tester is disposed downhole on a drill string and a formation test is performed by forming a seal between a formation probe assembly and the formation. A drawdown piston then creates a volume within a cylinder to draw formation fluid into the volume through the probe assembly. The pressure of the fluid within the cylinder is monitored. The formation test procedure may then be adjusted. The test procedure may be adjusted to account for the bubble point pressure of the fluid being monitored. The pressure may monitored to verify a proper seal is formed or is being maintained. The test procedure may also be performed by maintaining a substantially constant drawdown rate using a hydraulic threshold or a variable restrictor.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2005Publication date: December 8, 2005Applicant: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Malcolm McGregor, Gregory Gilbert, Mark Proett, James Fogal, David Welshans, Glenn Gray, Svetozar Simeonov, Laban Marsh, Jean Beique, James Stone

Publication number: 20050257611Abstract: This application relates to various methods and apparatus for rapidly obtaining accurate formation property data from a drilled earthen borehole. Quickly obtaining accurate formation property data, including formation fluid pressure, is vital to beneficially describing the various formations being intersected. For example, methods are disclosed for collecting numerous property values with a minimum of downhole tools, correcting and calibrating downhole measurements and sensors, and developing complete formation predictors and models by acquiring a diverse set of direct formation measurements, such as formation fluid pressure and temperature. Also disclosed are various methods of using of accurately and quickly obtained formation property data.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2005Publication date: November 24, 2005Applicant: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: James Fogal, Mark Proett, James Dudley, Laban Marsh, David Welshans, Jean Beique, John Hardin, William Hendricks
