  • Patent number: 7523859
Abstract: A system and method for protecting confidential user information employed in an electronic transaction. The system and method provide for associating an expiration time/time period, use or other use-limiting authorization indicator with a credit card or other user information to be transferred to a user information recipient, in conjunction with a product/service payment or other business transaction with a hosted contact center. Embodiments of the invention further provide for forming a limited-use indicator, such as a use-limiting token, by associating a transaction agent indicator and a use-limiting indicator with the user information, and for verifying a limited use indicator received from a contact center agent and determining according to such indicator, in addition to any ordinary verification that might also be conducted, whether the use limitation has been met and whether the transaction should be authorized in accordance with the use limitation.

  • Publication number: 20090097677
Abstract: In one embodiment, one or more users may be participating in a conversation. In one example, a first user may be speaking into a speaker end device and a second user may be listening at a listener end device. The second user may be in an environment where noise may be present. Particular embodiments determine characteristics of the noise at the listener end device. Characteristics of a voice signature for a user speaking with the speaker end device are also determined. Comprehension enhancement of voice signals received from speaker end device is then performed based on characteristics of the noise at the listener end device and characteristics of the voice signature. For example, the signature of the voice signals may be altered to lessen the overlap with the noise.

  • Publication number: 20090086933
Abstract: In an example embodiment, a system that appropriately routes calls to an agent at a contact center based on the agent's voice and/or hearing characteristics. The agent is selected by matching speech and hearing characteristics of a caller with the speech and hearing characteristics of an agent. In order to find the best match for the caller, the contact center determines if the caller is hearing impaired, and if so determines a suitable frequency range for the caller. If a match cannot be found, the agent's and/or caller's voice may be shifted in real time and adjusted to a frequency range that is best suited for the caller.

  • Patent number: 7492729
Abstract: A method for reserving conference resources includes communicating a conference notification to each of a plurality of conference invitees. The conference notification is associated with a multipoint conference. The method includes receiving, from each of a first number of the plurality of conference invitees, a response to the conference notification indicating that the invitee will participate on the multipoint conference. The first number of the plurality of invitees comprises participating invitees. The method includes automatically determining, based on the responses to the conference notifications, a sufficient amount of resources to allow the participating invitees to communicate on the multipoint conference. The method also includes automatically reserving the determined sufficient amount of resources and hosting the multipoint conference between the participating invitees using the reserved resources.

  • Patent number: 7490039
Abstract: A method for audibly spelling a word in an audio file includes playing an audio file to a user, receiving a command to spell a word in the audio file from the user, identifying a textual word in a text file corresponding to the word, and audibly spelling the textual word. A text-to-speech system includes a memory and a text-to-speech module. The text-to-speech module generates an audio file from a text file, and stores in the memory locations for words in the audio file corresponding to locations of words in the text file.

  • Patent number: 7471774
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for providing communication with an interactive voice response system that includes establishing a communication session between a caller and an interactive voice response system. The communication session includes a call thread. The method includes detecting a pause condition associated with the communication session and pausing the call thread. A pause point in the call thread is determined when the call thread is paused. A reminder message may then be communicated to the caller at predefined intervals. The reminder message may include instructions to the caller for resuming the call thread. The method may also include receiving an indication to resume the call thread and resuming the call thread at the pause point.

  • Publication number: 20080310398
Abstract: A method and system of prioritizing calls based on audio stream analysis includes receiving a plurality of calls, wherein each call comprises an audio stream. The audio stream associated with one of the calls is analyzed for pre-determined audio characteristics. The call is processed based on the audio characteristics of the call. A system for prioritizing calls includes a multipoint control unit for receiving calls. An audio stream capture system captures an audio stream from the calls. The audio stream is analyzed by the capture system according to one or more selected criteria and an urgency priority ranking is determined for each call. The calls are ranked in a queue database according to urgency priority. A controller manages the audio stream capture system, the audio analyzer and queue database computer system.

  • Patent number: 7446657
Abstract: Disclosed is an active or dynamic RFID tag that actively provides current status information regarding a particular item, as well as mechanisms for recognizing dynamic RFID information read from such RFID tag. Static identifying information regarding the particular item is provided either by the same active/dynamic RFID tag or by a different passive RFID tag. While the RFID tag may passively or actively provide general identification, the RFID tag actively provides status information that corresponds to changes in the corresponding item's status. In a first implementation, active RFID tags are positioned next to one or more components within a system so that each active RFID tag is powered and transmitting its RFID information when its corresponding component is operational. In contrast, each active RFID tag is positioned so that it is not powered and not transmitting its RFID information when its component is failing.

  • Publication number: 20080226046
Abstract: In a wide-area communication system, users or numbers in the system to be alerted are ranked so to improve the efficiency of the alert calls. Rankings are based on various factors, including whether two or more users are on the same active call, whether a user is on an active call, how recently a user ended a call, and whether a user recently missed a call. Within rankings, there may be multiple callers or numbers. These users may further be ranked, such as by determining which caller is expected to end a call first based on the current elapsed time of the call and the average call duration for that user or number.

  • Publication number: 20080167774
Abstract: A method for intelligently managing a transportation network is provided. The method may include providing a roadside apparatus 18 to communicate with nodes 14A to 14D associated with vehicles 12A to 12D in a transportation network, the vehicle nodes being in a neighborhood range of the roadside apparatus. The roadside apparatus may dynamically detect the presence of a node 14A associated with a first vehicle 12A, and establish a mobile Internet Protocol (IP) network between the roadside apparatus and the first vehicle's node. The roadside apparatus 18 receives, in real-time, from the first vehicle's node 14A event data of events associated with the first vehicle 12A over the mobile IP network. The roadside apparatus 18 or nodes 14A to 14D may further receive or transmit real-time command data to control subsystems of a vehicle.
