  • Patent number: 6083095
Abstract: An improved nozzle for poultry washer nozzle for insertion into the cavity of an eviscerated poultry. The washer has an axial central tube upon which is mounted a rotatable cylinder as a distal portion and a proximate rib portion spaced from said tube. Orifices between the tube and internally of the cylinder provides cleansing liquid to the inside of the cylinder from which it flows through tangential offices in the cylinder. The proximate rib portion is detailed to center the poultry about the washer.

  • Patent number: 5178579
Abstract: A washer for forcefully spraying with water the inside of eviscerated poultry that is traversing a treatment line. The washer is mounted on a module frame that moves with the line. The washer descends into the body cavity of the bird and sprays water thereinto. The washer is an elongated member having a rotatable hollow core with tangentially placed holes to thereby rotate the core as a result of water egressing therethrough. The core is surrounded by a cage. The washer is pivotally mounted and is detailed to arc upwardly with a bird that the washer is in.

  • Patent number: 5178578
Abstract: A probe for removing the crop and other viscera in poultry. The probe is cylindrical and is rounded at its distal end. Intermediate its ends is a grasping comb section consisting of a plurality of axially disposed channels. The channels each have walls that terminate in a plurality of spaced generally arcuate teeth the surfaces of which are essentially flush with the cylindrical probe. The probe is mounted on a module that in turn is mounted to traverse synchronously with poultry carrying shackles on an endless line. The probe and mechanisms therefor is detailed to enter into the neck portion of the chicken, rotate therein to thereby grasp with the teeth the crop and to withdraw the crop through the same opening that the probe entered.

  • Patent number: 4910829
Abstract: There is disclosed a combination crop remover and neck breaker for use as part of a continuous processing station adjacent a conventional poultry processing line wherein partially processed poultry is given a two step processing treatment. The station includes a plurality of modules that are moved in synchronization with the poultry line. The modules egage the upside down hanging birds in a clasping fashion. The modules have a neck breaker means and a probe means for entering the backside of a bird through a previously cut opening for the purpose. The probe under the aegis of a vacuum and structural features entwines the crop and other viscera and removes same when the probe is withdrawn. The probe is then cleansed of the viscera when the module has been moved to another location at its station. The so-treated poultry is permitted to continue on its path in the processing line.

  • Patent number: 4739539
Abstract: The disclosure pertains to means and method for effectuating considerable squeezing to a fowl between a back supporting surface and a breast supporting surface whereby the so treated poultry has it feces squeezed out of its anus. The squeezing manipulation occurs most satisfactorily downstream of the scalding step i.e. the feather removing step and prior to an eviscerating step. The bird is carried by a shackle arrangement in a conventional manner, i.e. the bird is carried upside down by a moving endless chain and is either manipulated or worked upon in a conventional and well known manner at various stations. The manipulative station to unload the intestines or feces and the wash away of the excrement is the gist of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 4730365
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a neck breaking assembly for a poultry processing operation wherein the bird's neck is first aligned and positioned into an identifiable location adjacent to a breaker block. The breaker block is then projected towards the bird breaking the neck of the bird against a V-shaped aligning and positioning assembly which serves as an anvil for the breaker block. The projected breaker block is then withdrawn downwardly separating the severed neck from the bird and stretching the remaining neck skin.

  • Patent number: 4707886
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an oil sac removal assembly comprising an apertured plate having an inwardly bevelled aperture which is pressed against the tail section of a bird, so that the oil sac protrudes through the aperture. A scraper then engages a portion of the protruding oil sac and peels it from the bird. The scraper also engages the plate for pressing it against the tail section of the bird. The apertured plate is loosely and pivotally mounted in a supporting frame so that it is self seating against the oil sac and can better accommodate different sized birds because it is free to move in a limited manner in both the horizontal and vertical planes.

  • Patent number: 4694535
Abstract: A vertically adjustable ladder contactor for a post stunner has two fluidic piston and cylinders for raising and lowering the ladder contactor. Four parallel support rods suspended from the conveyor track are formed of an electrical insulator to prevent short circuit of the stunner. In addition, the piston and cylinder assemblies are similarly insulated. By extending or contracting the piston and cylinder assemblies, the ladder contactor can be raised or lowered parallel to the poultry transporting conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4694534
Abstract: The present invention provides a saline solution containing elongated trough which is mounted at the end portions of four non-electronically conducting ports. The trough has an ingress funnel arrangement designed to control the thrashing of to-be-electrically-stunned birds and an elongated grid having a portion immersed in the solution and a downstream portion out of the solution. The four posts extend upwardly and terminate in threaded portions. A frame carriage is provided which has four corners and at the four corners are suitable mounted driven gears with internal bores and threads adapted to enjoyingly rotate about the threaded portions of the ports. The carriage is suitable affixed to a conventional I-beam to which is movingly mounted a conventional endless cable and space shackle system for conveying birds in an upside down manner.
