Abstract: An apparatus for use in performing operations on birds moving along an overhead line in a poultry processing operation. The apparatus comprises a plurality of individual modules, each module including a V-shaped aligning and holding guide for aligning and holding the neck of a bird against displacement which cooperates with a projecting breaking assembly to break the neck of the bird embraced by the guide. The V-shaped guide is pivotally mounted to a support frame, so that it can be pivoted from an open position to a closed position, where it engages the neck of the bird.

Abstract: Apparatus for use in performing processing operations on birds supported by individual shackles in a head lowermost position and moving along a line in a processing operation. The apparatus includes adjustable frame support having drive means adapted to be selectively adjusted into and out of engagement with the moving processing line whereby adjustment into operable engagement with the moving processing line will effect a timed driving movement of the frame supported processing mechanism. The apparatus includes guide means supported in engagement with the bird supporting shackles and operable for movement between one adjusted position whereby the shackle supported birds are guided for movement along a path of engagement with the frame supported processing mechanism and a second adjusted position whereby the shackle supported birds are guided for movement along a path out of engagement with the processing mechanism.
