  • Patent number: 8005833
Abstract: Demographic information of an Internet user is predicted based on an analysis of accessed web pages. Web pages accessed by the Internet user are detected and mapped to a user path vector which is converted to a normalized weighted user path vector. A centroid vector identifies web page access patterns of users with a shared user profile attribute. The user profile attribute is assigned to the Internet user based on a comparison of the vectors. Bias values are also assigned to a set of web pages and a user profile attribute can be predicted for an Internet user based on the bias values of web pages accessed by the user. User attributes can also be predicted based on the results of an expectation maximization process. Demographic information can be predicted based on the combined results of a vector comparison, bias determination, or expectation maximization process.

  • Patent number: 7136876
Abstract: A method and apparatus for building an abbreviation dictionary involves searching through a set of source documents. The abbreviations having likely definitions are identified and the definitions extracted from the document. The definitions having identical associated abbreviations are grouped together. The definition groups are each arranged into clusters based on an n-gram or other combinatorial method to determine similar definition. Further disambiguation is provided by looking at similarity between clusters using an annotation associated with the source documents from which the definitions were extracted.

  • Patent number: 6631451
Abstract: A system and method of caching uses quality or value attributes, provided for example, by a recommender system or by a dynamical analysis of site accesses, which are attached to cached information to prioritize items in the cache. Documents are prioritized in the cache according to the relative value of their content. Value data may be provided from a recommender system which provides a value for a document according to user recommendations (using explicit recommendations) or from statistical analysis of site visits from unique users (implicit recommendations) or a combination of the two to identify the higher value documents.

  • Publication number: 20030186243
Abstract: A method of finding genes associated with a disease, includes: finding all potential gene symbols; folding at least one alias into official gene symbols; and computing the relevance of each official symbol to the disease. The method may further include, eliminating non-gene symbols by use of contextual clues.
