Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a system and method for discovering knowledge communities. Embodiments of the present invention may comprise providing user access to a network of documents, gathering document access data relating to user access of each document in the network of documents and document authorship and review data, and establishing relationships between users and documents based on the document access data and document authorship and review data. Further, embodiments of the present invention may comprise establishing a network of users that are linked by common document access patterns based on the relationships between users and documents, and clustering communities of users within the network.

Web pages accessed by the Internet user are detected and mapped to a user path vector which is converted to a normalized weighted user path vector. A centroid vector identifies web page access patterns of users with a shared user profile attribute. The user profile attribute is assigned to the Internet user based on a comparison of the vectors. Bias values are also assigned to a set of web pages and a user profile attribute can be predicted for an Internet user based on the bias values of web pages accessed by the user. User attributes can also be predicted based on the results of an expectation maximization process. Demographic information can be predicted based on the combined results of a vector comparison, bias determination, or expectation maximization process.

The method discloses: collecting a set of reputation ratings on a target entity from a set of reputation rating entities; attributing a weight to each of the reputation ratings based on a set of filtering criteria; and combining the weighted reputation ratings to generate a filtered reputation rating with respect to the target entity. The system discloses various means, mediums and systems for effecting the method.

Abstract: A method of finding genes associated with a disease, includes: finding all potential gene symbols; folding at least one alias into official gene symbols; and computing the relevance of each official symbol to the disease. The method may further include, eliminating non-gene symbols by use of contextual clues.
