  • Patent number: 5367137
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing a protective gas consisting of 0.0010-0.100 percent by volume nitric-oxide, 0-90 percent by volume helium, 0-5 percent by volume hydrogen, 0-50 percent by volume carbon dioxide, and the remainder argon. The invention also relates to a gas mixture for producing the productive gas. The method of producing the protective gas is characterized by dissolving nitric oxide in condensed argon to a concentration of 0.0010-0.100 percent by volume, calculated on gas phase, vaporizing the resultant solution and mixing remaining constituents in the vaporized solution in such proportions as to obtain a protective gas of the predetermined composition. The gas mixture used for producing the protective gas is characterized in that it consists of 0.0010-0.100 percent by volume nitric oxide in condensed argon, calculated on gas phase, and is preferably held under an overpressure.

  • Patent number: 4292493
Abstract: In welding or working operations using an electric arc a nitrogen compound is introduced into the working or welding area for the purpose of decomposing ozone in said area. The nitrogen compound is preferably purely nitric oxide, but may also be nitrous oxide (N.sub.2 O) or ammonia (NH.sub.3).

  • Patent number: 4240798
Abstract: In the decomposition of ozone in aircraft, the ozone level in an airflow upstream of the aircraft cabin is measured and a signal generated in accordance with the sensed level. This signal is amplified to a given value and a valve is opened or closed in response thereto. Connected to the valve is a source of nitric oxide under pressure. When the valve is opened a measured quantity of nitric oxide is dispensed to a location in said airflow remote from said ozone monitoring device.

  • Patent number: 4139757
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and a device for igniting a gas planing process. The method is based on applying heat to a workpiece by means of a movable heat source, which in principle has a point effect so that the heated or molten portion of the workpiece forms a strip, which in principle extends perpendicularly to the flow direction of the planing oxygen. The device for carrying out the method comprises one or more planing burners and one or more movable ignition means so connected to the burner that the ignition means can move relative to the planing burner both in parallel with and perpendicularly to the planing direction and at the same time carry out the function of a heat source of in principle point shape, which preheats a strip-shaped zone on the surface of the workpiece and/or in addition to said preheating adds molten metal to said zone.

  • Patent number: 3966504
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for initiating and maintaining a thermochemical process of scarfing the surface of a workpiece to remove surface defects like, e.g., cracks, in which there is used a unit of torches, continuously moving in relation to the workpiece, in which a spot or zone in the surface is burnt in oxygen or in other reacting medium.
