  • Patent number: 8261924
Abstract: A collapsible air freight container (10) comprises a standard base (12), a side panel (16) slideably hinged to the base and a back panel (18) which is hinged to the base which interlocks with the side panel. There is a side extension (20) which is generally trapezoidal to roughly conform to the shape of a side wall of a plane's cargo hold. A lid is slideably mounted on top of the container so that it can be slid relative to the back panel. The lid is arranged so that when fully retracted to the back of the container relative to the back panel, it may pivot to overlay the back panel. The container may be collapsed by retracting and pivoting the lid to overlie the back panel (18), folding the side extension (20), folding and sliding the side panel (16) into the base (12) and lowering the folded side extension (20) and then the back panel (18) and lid (40) into the base.

  • Publication number: 20100187228
Abstract: A collapsible air freight container (10) also known as a unit load device, comprises a standard base (12), commonly used on unit load devices, a side panel (16) slideably hinged to the base and a back panel (18) which is hinged to the base which interlocks with the side panel. There is a side extension (20) which is generally trapezoidal to roughly conform to the shape of a side wall of a plane's cargo hold. The side extension (20) includes a frame which (22) is hinged to the base and two trapezoidal (front and rear) panel extensions (24, 26) hinged to the frame. The side extension (20) is completed by a lid (28) and side wall panel (32) connected together by a hinge (34) with the lid (28) being hinged to a top of the frame, and by a sloping bottom panel (36) and relatively short side wall panel (40) hingedly connected to each other with the bottom panel (36) also being hinged to a bottom member of the frame. A lid is slideably mounted on top of the container so that it can be slid relative to the back panel.

  • Patent number: 7093731
Abstract: A container with a container body includes two side panels and two end panels respectively upstanding from the edges of a four-sided base and a two-part lid, which can slide to a container top uncovering position and then pivot to a storage position. A securing device and a second securing device holds each lid part against the underlying top edges of the panels when the lid part is in a container top covering position. A third securing device couples each lid part, when in a storage position, to a side panel. A socket on each side panel is engaged by elements of the first securing device to facilitate pivoting of the lid parts from the container top uncovering position to their storage positions.

  • Publication number: 20030024926
Abstract: A container (1) comprising a base (2) and four panels (3, 4, 5, 6) adapted to be coupled to the base (2) so as to be upstanding from the base (2). There is an upstanding plinth (21) along one edge the base (2) and at the top of the plinth (21) there is a coupling member (23) to engage with a cooperating coupling member (7) on the rear panel (5). The rear panel (5) sits on the plinth (21) when coupled thereto and when so coupled is sufficiently raised above the support surface (10) of the base (2) as to allow uncoupling of the rear panel (5) from the base (2) without interference from a cover panel (14) over the base support surface (10).

  • Patent number: 6415938
Abstract: A container (1) comprising a base (2) and four side panels (6, 7, 8, 9), a pair of opposed side panels (6, 8) are coupled to upstanding comer posts (10) of the base (2) and the other pair of panels (7, 9) are coupled to rails (5) upstanding from the base (2), the couplings (14, 17 and 44, 19) normally allow the panels to be moved between upstanding condition where the panels are interlocked with each other and are held by retainers (12) to the base (2) and the rails (5), and storage condition where the panels lie one over the other over the base. The couplings are through panel mounted track followers (14, 44) engaged in “L” shaped tracks (17, 19) in the corner posts (10) and the rails (5) respectively. First limbs (17a, 19a) of the “L” shaped tracks (17, 19) are open ended allowing sequential demounting of the panels (6, 8 and 7, 9) from the base (2) by passage of the track followers (14, 44) through the open ends of the tracks (17, 19).

  • Patent number: 6186726
Abstract: An apparatus and related method are provided for converting an open-topped container into a top-emptying container. The apparatus preferably includes a cover having ground-engaging feet and a discharge opening able to be opened and closed. A coupling device is included on the cover for coupling the cover to the open-topped container. A cradle having an entry side and supports provides lateral and back support for a container-cover assembly when the cradle is inverted, in a controlled manner, by a rotationally inverting device. The cradle further includes openable end members with a spacing apart when closed, so that end movement of the container-cover assembly in the cradle, during inversion of the cradle, will be substantially eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5971219
Abstract: A hood for mounting over the open top of a container for allowing the container to stand inverted on legs of the hood. The container's contents can then be discharged through the open top of the container and the hood chute. The hood includes a latching device for gripping the container and further includes movable sockets for engagement by a lifting device required to place the hood on, and remove the hood from, the container. Linkages connect the sockets with the latching device and movement of the sockets, as the hood is lifted by a hood lifting device, moves the latching device from a latching condition, which is so biassed by, for example, compression springs, to a release condition.

  • Patent number: 5730307
Abstract: A container side having an upper pan (6) and a lower part (7) hinged together by a hinge (19) so the upper part can pivot relative to the lower part. To substantially eliminate pressure loads on the hinge as are exerted by the load within the container of which the side is an element, load resisting means (12, 15) are provided to couple adjacent sides of the upper and lower parts. In a hinging sequence of the upper part (6) relative to the lower part (7) from a loading condition where the parts (6, 7) are overlying to an operational condition where they are coplanar, the load resisting means (12, 15) will automatically engage when the side parts (6, 7) approach the operational condition and will automatically disengage when the upper part (6) is hinged from the coplanar operational condition.
