  • Patent number: 11962019
Abstract: The present invention relates to a carbon based electrode with a large geometrical surface area comprising a frame of an electrically conductive material with several cut-outs with a surface area, which cut-outs are separated from each other by portions of the conductive material, wherein carbon based sub-electrodes dimensioned so as to a least cover the surface area of the cut-outs are positioned in the cut-outs and conductively connected to at least part of each of the portions of the conductive material adjacent to the carbon based sub-electrodes.

  • Publication number: 20230032928
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the generation of hydrogen and oxygen from a liquid feed stream comprising water. The method includes passing an electric current through an aqueous electrolyte solution. Water is fed to the aqueous electrolyte solution by forward osmosis, wherein the aqueous electrolyte solution is brought into contact with a first side of a forward osmosis membrane and the liquid feed stream comprising water is brought into contact with a second side of the forward osmosis membrane. Water permeates through the forward osmosis membrane from the second side to the first side by a difference in osmotic pressure between the liquid feed stream and the aqueous electrolyte solution. Further, a device is disclosed for carrying out the above method.

  • Patent number: 11519084
Abstract: The present invention discloses a membrane-less reactor design for microbial electrosynthesis of alcohols from carbon dioxide (CO2). The membrane-less reactor design thus facilitates higher and efficient CO2 transformation to alcohols via single pot microbial electrosynthesis. The reactor design operates efficiently avoiding oxygen contact at working electrode without using membrane, in turn there is an increase in CO2 solubility and its bioavailability for subsequent CO2 conversion to alcohols at faster rate. The present invention further provides a process of operation of the reactor for biotransformation of the carbon dioxide.

  • Publication number: 20210348113
Abstract: A system is for producing products, advantageously solvents, by fermentation, advantageously multi-stage fermentation. The fermentation is complemented with pervaporation as in situ product recovery technology, combined with a multistage condensation of the permeate. The condensates are separately introduced in the downstream processing of the system to recover the produced products, advantageously solvents. The system for producing products, advantageously solvents, by fermentation is simplified and has an overall improved energy efficiency, compared to systems described in the art.
