Patent number: 4458028Abstract: This invention relates to a process for forming a catalyst containing chromium and vanadium, by depositing chromium- and vanadium compounds on an inert, particulate inorganic support. The chromium is deposited as a complex of a chromium compound that may be a chromium-1,3-diketocompound with a Group II or III element hydrocarbyl. The vanadium compound can be but need not be a complex of a vanadium compound with a Group II or III element. Not more than one of the chromium- and a vanadium compounds may be the chelate of a 1.3-diketo-compound, whether or not complexed with a Group II or III element hydrocarbyl. The process for polymerizing an olefin using the catalysts of the invention is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1982Date of Patent: July 3, 1984Assignee: Stamicarbon B.V.Inventors: Lambertus J. Patent number: 4450098Abstract: Process for preparing and treating a chromium-containing catalyst so that when the catalyst is activated the risk of explosion is substantially reduced. The catalyst comprises a complex of chromium and optionally other transition metal complexes reacted with one or more organometallic compounds of a metal of group II or III of the periodic table, which metal contains hydrocarbyl groups of 1-20 carbon atoms. The reaction product is applied to an inert inorganic support to form the catalyst component which is deactivated by treatment with oxygen or an alcohol to modify or replace residual hydrocarbyl groups. The catalyst component may be activated to form the catalyst by heating in the range 200.degree.-1200.degree. C. The catalyst is used to catalyze a polymerization of alpha-olefins.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1982Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Assignee: Stamicarbon B.V.Inventors: Lambertus J. M. Patent number: 4228260Abstract: Process for the preparation of a porous, pure silica which is particularly suitable as a catalyst support for a chromium-oxide catalyst used in polymerizing of olefins. The process comprises the steps of converting a silicon-halogen compound to a silica and then admixing with water to form a silica gel. The gel is then spray-dried to achieve the required particle size and pore volume. The silica can then be made into a catalyst by placing on the support a chromium compound and then heating in a non-reducing atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1979Date of Patent: October 14, 1980Assignee: Stamicarbon, B.V.Inventors: Joseph J.
