  • Patent number: 4211108
Abstract: A test station to determine the holding strength of an insulator body on an electrical connector contact retention clip located in a bore in the insulator. The insulator is fixed in position. Then a mandrel with a tool on one end engages the clip and a pneumatically operated piston rod connected to the mandrel pulls on the clip. A lamp may be illuminated or an automatic machine may be stopped when the strain at a selected higher stress exceeds that at a selected lower stress by a predetermined threshold amount.

  • Patent number: 4158126
Abstract: A heating unit which may be used as a soft contact lens disinfecting unit and which embodies a case construction entirely of thermoplastic, or other low heat-conductive material. A heat conductive liquid such as molten wax, or oil, or both, is contained in the case and is used as a uniform heat transfer medium between electrical heating elements in the case and the surface of an incubator supported in the case which, likewise, is formed of low heat-conductive material. The heating unit in the embodiment to be described, is specifically constructed to produce or aid in disinfecting so-called soft contact lenses intended for wearing in contact with the eye. The unit is more generally applicable, and may be used to advantage, when a low cost heating unit is desired which will raise the temperature of an object or a material to a given temperature, maintain it at or above the given temperature for a given time period, and then allow it to cool down and return to an ambient temperature condition.

  • Patent number: 3967934
Abstract: A system and method is provided which has the general capabilities of measuring the speed of coagulation, congealing or solidification of a fluid sample, and which has particular utility in the measurement of the time required by a sample under test to increase viscosity to a particular level. The system and method to be described is predicated on a viscosity principle, and it includes a movable magnetic member suspended in the fluid sample and which changes position when the sample achieves a predetermined degree of viscosity. The change in position of the aforesaid member is photoelectrically or electromagnetically detected, and the time at which the change occurs, is used in the determination of the time required, for example, for the sample to form a fibrin clot, in a blood or plasma sample or to effect a particular reaction causing solidification or congealing of the sample.

  • Patent number: RE30483
Abstract: An outer tube has a hollow elongated member, attached to one end of the tube in a coaxial relationship. A rod slidable in the tube causes a replaceable tip, mounted on the hollow elongated member, to fill with fluid when the rod is moved in a first direction and discharges the fluid when the rod is moved in the opposite direction. A first spring surrounds the rod and exerts a force between a stop, mounted at an intermediate position within the tube, and the rod to bias the rod in the first direction. A second spring surrounds the rod and is interposed between the stop and the inner end of the hollow elongated member. A first limiting member is mounted on the rod to compress the second spring when the rod is moved in the opposite direction beyond a predetermined limit.
