  • Patent number: 7396968
Abstract: Processes and apparatus for the alkylation of aromatic compound with mono-olefin aliphatic compound in the presence of solid alkylation catalyst use a lights distillation for obtaining desired selectivities to arylalkane in a energy efficient manner. The processes and apparatus offer the potential for debottlenecking existing arylalkane production facilities and reducing the size and energy requirements for a new arylalkane production facility.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 25, 2005
Date of Patent: July 8, 2008
    Assignee: UOP LLC
Inventors: Stephen W. Sohn, Michael R. Smith, Lance A. Baird

  • Publication number: 20060013764
Abstract: A process for the production of high purity hydrogen from a naphtha catalytic reformer wherein the reformer is firstly operated at a predetermined catalyst circulation rate to produce hydrogen gas containing carbon monoxide and secondly the catalyst circulation rate is reduced to produce hydrogen gas having a lower concentration of carbon monoxide.
    Type: Application
    Filed: December 29, 2003
    Publication date: January 19, 2006
    Inventors: Lance Baird, Thomas Gevelinger
  • Publication number: 20060013763
Abstract: A process for the production of high purity hydrogen from a naphtha catalytic reformer having a first catalytic zone in a lead position followed by a second catalytic zone in a lag position operating at similar inlet temperatures to produce a predetermined conversion wherein the inlet temperature of the second catalytic zone is reduced to thereby reduce the concentration of carbon monoxide in the net hydrogen product stream and the inlet temperatures of the first catalytic zone is increased to restore the predetermined conversion.
    Type: Application

    Publication date: January 19, 2006
    Inventors: Lance Baird, Thomas Gevelinger
  • Patent number: 6646159
Abstract: Long chain alcohols and acids or other similar oxygenates such as esters are produced from paraffins of similar carbon number by a process comprising paraffin dehydrogenation, carbonylation, and separation. Preferably a mixture of paraffins extending over several carbon numbers and recovered from a kerosene fraction is processed, and unconverted paraffins are recycled to a dehydrogenation zone. Alternative reaction zone configurations, catalyst systems and product recovery methods are disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 21, 2000
Date of Patent: November 11, 2003
    Assignee: UOP LLC
Inventors: Lance A. Baird, Leonid B. Galperin, R. Joe Lawson, Robert H. Jensen, Oleg L. Eliseev, Albert L. Lapidus, Aduard G. Ostapenco
