    Abstract: The Battery Analyzer in a Battery Pack and Fixture includes a portable handheld device containing multiple battery cells in a battery pack having a microprocessor or ASIC with companion circuitry for measuring the condition of the cell battery and manage the use of the battery taking into consideration the history of the battery, the condition of the various cells within the battery, the device the battery pack is being used in, and other factors. The condition of the battery pack may be displayed with an LCD display for direct user information, or may be relayed electromagnetically back to a base station through the transmitter portion of the device, such as a walkie talkie.

The first bond wire forms a sense resistor with a resistance of a known value. A second bond wire is connected between the first one of the landing zones and a first one of the bond pads.

    Abstract: A battery system includes a multi-cell battery pack in electrical communication with a load. The voltages of each cell are individually monitored by the microcontroller, such as with a high-impedance input terminal. Across each of the cells is a transistor-resistor combination such that by providing a voltage to the gate of each of the transistors, a short-circuit is created through the corresponding cell thereby providing an additional current drain on the cell. More specifically, by turning on the transistor, a short-circuit current (ISQ1) is drawn from the cell through resistor (R1) to provide for the isolated discharge of the specific cell. By selectively measuring each of the cells in a multi-cell battery pack to determine if any of the cells are over-voltage, and if so, by increasing the current drain on that specific cell, the overall maximum amount of energy can be transferred to a load across the battery pack.

    Abstract: Referring to FIG. 1, a cell balancing system of the present invention is shown and generally designated 100. System 100 includes a number of battery cells 102 in electrical communication with a safety circuit 104. In a preferred embodiment, the safety circuit 104 is included in an application specific semiconductor (ASIC) and provides an input/output channel 106 that includes, for example, Vbat(+), Clock, Data, Return, and Vbat(?) signals for use by a device which incorporates the battery. It is to be appreciated that I/O channel 106 may be of any type, generic or proprietary, and may have any number of communication protocols as is known in the art.
