    Abstract: The present invention provides a method, apparatus, and computer instructions for parsing the document to render the document in a display window in a data processing system. The element is sent to a set of applications in response to identifying that the element in the document cannot be rendered by the browser. An application is selected to render the element in response to receiving a response from one or more applications in the set of applications in which the response identifies the application as being capable of rendering the element. Thereafter, the application renders the element to display the document.
