Abstract: A disposable tip (20) having a sheath (30) and which is structured to be used with a medical device is provided. The sheath (30) provides protection for the medical device base unit (10). The sheath (30) is sealingly coupled to the tip (20), preferably at an end of the tip (20), proximal to the base unit (10). In this configuration, the sheath (30) may be extended to substantially enclose and protect the base unit (10) from contamination.

Abstract: An apparatus for indicating a strapping force applied by a headgear of a patient interface device. The apparatus includes a first portion structured to be selectively connectable to a connecting element of a mask of the patient interface device, a second portion structured to be selectively connectable to a strap of the headgear, and a force gauging mechanism coupled to the first portion and the second portion. The force gauging mechanism is structured to gauge and indicate a force being applied by the headgear in response to the second strap portion being pulled by the strap of the headgear.

Abstract: A pad assembly for use with a gas deliver mask for delivering a flow of gas to an airway of a patient is described. The pad assembly includes an outer casing and a support element. The outer cashing has a housing portion and a mounting portion. The housing portion has a first wall and a second wall defining a hollow cavity therebetween. The first wall is structured to engage a portion of the patient, and the mounting portion is structured to couple the outer casing to the patient interface device. The support element is disposed substantially within the cavity of the outer casing.

Abstract: A patient interface device including a cushion assembly having a cushion-in-a-cushion arrangement and a system for supplying a flow of gas to a patient using such an interface device. The patient interface includes a mask shell having a patient side and an outer side opposite the patient side adapted for receiving a supply of gas. A seal cushion contacts a first area of a patient's face to form a seal therewith. A support cushion is disposed outside the seal cushion and includes a first end portion that contacts a second area of a patient's face.

Abstract: An exhaust port assembly comprising a conduit carries a flow of gas. A vent assembly having a fixed exhaust area is provided on the conduit for venting a flow of exhaust gas from within the conduit to ambient atmosphere. The vent assembly is configured so as to minimize noise associated with the flow of exhaust gas passing to atmosphere, diffuse the flow of exhaust gas passing to ambient atmosphere over a relatively large area, and minimize the area occupied by the venting assembly on the conduit.

Abstract: A patient interface device that includes a mask shell and a cushion assembly. The cushion assembly includes a seal cushion and a support cushion. The seal cushion contacts a first area of a patient's face to form a seal therewith. The support cushion defines a second area over a face of such a patient when the patient interface device is being worn. The second area overlaps at least a portion of the first area.
