  • Patent number: 10328879
Abstract: A system for airbag deployment within a vehicle may include an airbag, a bumper beam, at least one sensor, and an electronic control unit (ECU). The bumper beam may include a left crush can and a right crush can. The left crush can and the right crush can may each include a first zone associated with a first stiffness in a vehicle longitudinal direction and a second zone associated with a second stiffness in the vehicle longitudinal direction. The sensor may receive one or more signals associated with an impact on the vehicle. The ECU may deploy the airbag at a timing based on one or more characteristics of one or more of the signals and one or more predetermined characteristics associated with the first stiffness of the first zone and the second stiffness of the second zone, thereby providing robust discrimination between a front flat impact mode and an front offset impact mode.

  • Patent number: 9932004
Abstract: A sensor bracket assembly is configured to extend between a sensor beam and a bumper beam of a vehicle. The sensor bracket assembly can include a bracket first section that is configured to be directly or indirectly connected to the bumper beam. The sensor bracket assembly can also include a bracket second section that is configured to be directly or indirectly connected to the sensor beam. The sensor bracket assembly can further include a spacer section that projects from the bracket first section and is configured to extend towards but be spaced from one of the bracket second section and the bumper beam.

  • Patent number: 9776664
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a vehicle including a frame having a side sill reinforcement, the side sill reinforcement running along a length of a side of the frame, and an impact transmission structure mounted to and extending laterally outward from an exterior surface of the side sill reinforcement, the impact transmission structure having a stiffness approximately equal to a stiffness of the side sill reinforcement and being configured to communicate an impact force resulting from a side impact into the vehicle into the frame and not absorb the impact force.
