Publication number: 20240345142Abstract: Time-synchronized state estimation for reconfigurable distribution systems is challenging because of limited real-time observability. A system addresses this challenge by formulating a deep learning (DL)-based approach for topology identification (TI) and unbalanced three-phase distribution system state estimation (DSSE). Two deep neural networks (DNNs) are trained for time-synchronized DNN-based TI and DSSE, respectively, for systems that are incompletely observed by synchrophasor measurement devices (SMDs) in real-time. A data-driven approach for judicious SMD placement to facilitate reliable TI and DSSE is also developed.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2024Publication date: October 17, 2024Applicants: Arizona Board of Regents on Behalf of Arizona State University, Cornell UniversityInventors: Anamitra Pal, Behrouz Azimian, Lang Tong

Patent number: 11764804Abstract: Systems and methods herein provide for adaptive subband compression of power signals in a power system. In one embodiment, a system includes an encoder is operable to partition sensor measurements into frequency subbands (e.g., including an interharmonic subband), centered at integer multiples of the power system's fundamental frequency (e.g., 50 Hz or 60 Hz). The encoder may also be operable to detect active subbands, and to compress the at least one active subband. The system also includes a data concentrator operable to transmit the at least one compressed subband to a processor for analysis. The system also includes a decoder at a processing location (a substation, a concentrator, or the control center) operable to parse the compressed waveforms into subbands, to interpolate and decompress at least one compressed subband, and to synthesize the decompressed subbands as an approximation of the original waveform (e.g., subject to reconstruction error requirements).Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2021Date of Patent: September 19, 2023Assignee: CORNELL UNIVERSITYInventors: Lang Tong, Xinyi Wang

Patent number: 7428265Abstract: A network includes a transmitter for transmitting a stream of known symbols and unknown symbols in an optimal distribution through a transmission channel to a receiver that receives the transmitted stream of known symbols and unknown symbols distorted by intersymbol interference (ISI). The receiver uses a known symbol generator and a precursor cancellation decision feedback equalizer (PC-DFE) to cancel precursor ISI from symbols that have not yet been decided. The transmitter comprises a known symbol distribution controller for inserting a plurality of known symbols into an outgoing stream of unknown symbols in an optimum distribution in order to improve the performance of the PC-DFE in the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2000Date of Patent: September 23, 2008Assignee: Cornell Research FoundationInventors: Srihari Adireddy, Lang Tong
