  • Patent number: 8371047
Abstract: The present invention provides devices, methods, and kits for reducing joint pain and treating conditions of weight-bearing joints. The methods are accomplished through the use of a cushioned wedged insole kit that selectively reduces pressure by cushioning impact and redistributing forces away from affected joints or joint compartments. The kit includes a wedged slab and a neutral slab. The slabs may be trimmed using the kit's sizing chart to create medial or lateral wedged insoles for either the right or left foot. The slab construction may mimic the combination of fatty globules and the surrounding restricting fibrous network cushioning structures found in the foot.

  • Publication number: 20070093313
Abstract: A golf putter head (10, 110) having a recess (18, 118) on a top side with a first diameter and a shaft (19, 111) or hosel with a second diameter secured in the head so that the diameter of the recess is larger than the diameter of the shaft or a hosel adjacent an upper side of the putter head (10, 110). Since the putter striking face is directly in front of the point of attachment (18B, 118B) of the shaft (19, 111) or hosel with the putter head (10, 110), the impact of the putter face on the ball is transmitted directly up the shaft (18B, 118B) of the golf club. This provides the golfer a more sensitive or intimate feel of the putt.

  • Publication number: 20070059372
Abstract: A method of using fluid aspirates as vehicles for drug delivery by collecting a fluid aspirate such as synovial joint effusion, pleural effusion, pericardial effusion, or ascites from a patient and centrifuging the fluid aspirate to provide a supernatant and a sedimented material. The sedimented material can optionally be further purified. One or more factors such as cytokines, bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), pharmaceutical drugs and gene vectors are added to the sedimented material or supernatant, optionally also including a biologically compatible medium such as a bioabsorbable sponge, so as to provide a vehicle for the one or more factors for reintroducion into the patient.

  • Publication number: 20060271199
Abstract: A prosthetic implant for the body having an associated gyroscope, accelerometer and/or magnetometer as the sensor to detect changes in position of the implant. The device incorporates a miniature gyroscope, accelerometer, and/or magnetometer as a permanent part of the prosthesis for navigational information. Alternatively, the magnetometer can be external to the implant when the implant has magnetic elements associated with it. The sensors can be microelectromechanical system (MEMS) sensors placed within a drilled hole and sealed with a screw or a cap (20). The implant can be responsive to an external interrogation and powering systems. The device provides information so as to help to properly place the prosthetic implant during surgery and to assess proper functioning. The gyroscope, accelerometer, and/or magnetometer are used after implantation to provide diagnostic information in situ based upon the changed positioning or motion of the device in the prosthesis.

Abstract: A golf putter (10) and putter head (15, 32, 44, 51, 61, 75, 85, 93 and 215) having an elongate flat blade (16, 36, 46, 56, 66, 76, 86, 96 and 216) for contacting a golf ball (20). The elongate flat blade (16, 36, 46, 56, 66, 76, 86, 96 and 216) is of narrow width, while the body (34, 52, 64, 94 and 118) can be more conventional in size. The head (15, 32, 44, 51, 61, 75, 85, 93 and 215) has a contact area (24) between the blade (16, 36, 46, 56, 66, 76, 86, 96 and 216) and the golf ball (20) which is linear, and of narrow width. The contact area (24) on the ball (20) is horizontal in orientation. Additionally, the contact area (24) on the ball (20) usually spans the dimple (22) diameter. Further provided is a golf putter head (310, 320, 330) having a front edge (313, 323, 333) of narrow width which has a radius less than that of a golf ball. The putter head (310, 320, 330) has a contact area with the golf ball which is linear, and of narrow width. The contact area on the golf ball is horizontal in orientation.

  • Publication number: 20060184022
Abstract: An apparatus and methods for diagnosing and treating nerve compression conditions in a patient, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tarsal tunnel syndrome and other nerve compression conditions. Ultrasound transducer heads having an array of high frequency piezoelectric crystal elements mounted in the transducer head capable of delivering frequencies of 7.5 MHz or greater, and a low frequency piezocomposite element mounted in the transducer head capable of delivering frequencies of 0.25 MHz to 1.5 MHz at an intensity of about 0.25 W/cm2 to 2.0 W/cm2 can be used to diagnose and also treat the conditions. If necessary, the high frequency piezoelectric elements can be used to visualize the region of therapy to more accurately direct the low frequency ultrasound energy.

  • Publication number: 20060172816
Abstract: A modular golf putter head, kit, and method of assembling the putter head are disclosed. The putter head has a body with one or more recesses each of which have access to holes passing through the putter head body through which screws or other fasteners removably secure weight inserts. The weight inserts can be situated at a plurality of sites along the length, width and height of the putter head to allow a golfer the choice of many possible weighting configurations for the putter head. The putter head also can be configured to have one of a number of face plates, such that the golfer can choose a preferred shape for a striking surface which contacts the golf ball when assembling the putter head.
