    Abstract: A password-less authentication system and method include registering a contactless card of a client with an application service and binding the contactless card to one or more client devices. The contactless card advantageously stores a username and a dynamic password. Accesses by the client to the application service may be made using any client device, and authentication of the accesses may be performed by any client device that includes a contactless card interface and can retrieve the username and dynamic password pair from the contactless card. By storing the username on the card, rather than requiring user input, application security improved because access to and knowledge of login credentials is limited. In addition, the use of a dynamic password reduces the potential of malicious access.

The method may further include ordering the monitored user data based on one or more of a sensitivity level and a veracity level associated with each of the monitored user data, and filtering out user data from the monitored user data that is not suitable for presenting to the user for identity verification. Furthermore, the method can include selecting a subset of the filtered user data for a series of identity verification questions for generating and transmitting, to the user system, a series of security verification questions, each security verification question based on one of the selected subset of the filtered user data.

The diversified key can be generated using a master key, a key diversification value and an encryption algorithm. In one example embodiment, the key diversification value can be provided by the user as a fingerprint, numeric code or photo. The user can provide the key diversification value to the card or a cellphone. The card can generate the diversified key using the user provided key diversification value. The card or the cellphone can transmit the user provided diversification value to the server and the server can regenerate the diversified key using the user provided diversification value.
