  • Patent number: 7710348
Abstract: A shape-memory reflector is disclosed along with methods for manufacturing, packaging and deploying the same. The shape-memory reflector may include an elastic reflector material, a shape-memory stiffener, and a plurality of radial stiffeners. The shape-memory stiffener may be coupled with the elastic reflector material in a band that encloses at least a portion of the elastic reflector surface, for example, the exterior of a paraboloid reflector. The plurality of radial stiffeners is coupled with the bottom surface of the elastic reflector material and extends radially from a central portion of the elastic reflector surface toward the outer edge of the elastic reflector surface. The shape-memory reflector may be packaged in a packaged configuration that includes a plurality of pleats within the elastic reflector material and/or the shape-memory stiffener, and the shape-memory reflector is configured to deploy into a deployed configuration (i.e. a paraboloid) by heating the shape-memory stiffener.

  • Publication number: 20070096718
Abstract: A transformer circuit is disclosed that minimizes the temperature dependence of an output voltage. A first embodiment of the present invention includes a primary winding coupled to received a voltage to be sensed and a center-tapped secondary winding coupled at a center point to first voltage output terminal. The center-tapped secondary winding includes a first secondary winding and a second secondary winding, the secondary windings being coupled through a bridge circuit to a second voltage output terminal.

  • Patent number: 5999584
Abstract: A rigging system for reactor closure head and reactor internals lifts. The system includes a plurality of latchbox pendants attached to the lifting structure of an overhead crane. A first set of a plurality of lifting lugs is attached to the reactor internals, each of the lifting lugs corresponding to one of the plurality of latchboxes. A second set of a plurality of substantially identical lifting lugs, each of the lifting lugs corresponding to one of the plurality of latchboxes, is attached to a plurality of solid rod lifting pendants attached at one end to the reactor closure head. In operation, the latchbox pendants may be rigged once to the overhead crane for handling reactor internals and left in place throughout the entire rigging sequence without changing to turnbuckle pendants for reactor closure head handling.

  • Patent number: 5967708
Abstract: A tool fixture device for positioning tools to repair defects adjacent to the sealing grooves in a pressure vessel head. The device includes a two pair of parallel, spaced apart, arcuate segments adapted to fit into one of the sealing grooves. A support plate is attached to the first and the second pair of parallel, spaced apart, arcuate segments. The fixture includes a plurality of threaded rods for expanding the ends of the parallel arcuate segments to engage the inside walls of one of the grooves to hold the fixture in place. In the preferred embodiment, a tool positioner is adapted to be attached to the support plate for positioning a repair tool to permit the repair tool to be used to repair defects adjacent to the sealing grooves. The tool positioner includes a planar table and a tool jig attached to the planar table for receiving the repair tool.

  • Patent number: 5063408
Abstract: A motorized sheet film cartridge comprises a light proof housing which defines an opening in its top wall. A refillable tray containing stacked sheet films is slidable in the housing. The housing includes a slidable door which displaces in a longitudinal direction horizontally over the tray and its content of sheet films between open and closed positions thereof. In its closed position, the door closes the housing opening, whereas in its open position, sheet films contained in the housing can be removed therefrom through the opening. The door is operated by a reversible DC motor which drives a pair of endless chains provided on each longitudinal side of the door for displacing the door between its open and closed positions. The motor is actuated by an external computer to appropriately open or close the door. The computer also verifies that the door is closed except when film is being loaded in the cartridge or unloaded therefrom through the opening. The cartridge is removable and portable.
