Patent number: 11279116Abstract: A zeolite formulation has been identified that is to be included in an arrangement of barrier layers allowing for the entrapment of volatile organoleptic compound (VOCs), in particular, odor causing VOCs, between the barrier layers in order to contain the release of these compounds. The entrapment technique allows for extended time to adsorb, absorb or react such VOCs before they can be absorbed by the product surrounded by the packaging. A zeolite formulation of an odor scavenger layer not having any VOC barrier layers within the film is also disclosed having the capability to contain the release of hydrogen sulfide over a period of at least 20 days.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2017Date of Patent: March 22, 2022Assignee: Cryovac, LLCInventors: Larry B. McAllister, Jr., Cynthia Louise Ebner, Drew V. Speer, Kemia Amin Anders

Publication number: 20140151258Abstract: The presently disclosed subject matter is directed to a film comprising a blend of about 90% to 99% polyester and about 1% to 10% biodegradable aliphatic or aromatic polyester (by weight). It has been surprisingly discovered that polymeric films comprising the disclosed blend exhibit improved flexibility and impact strength compared to polyester films known in the art. Films with the disclosed blends also advantageously do not adversely affect recyclability of the film. The disclosed films can be used in a wide variety of areas, including (but not limited to) shrink sleeve applications.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 3, 2012Publication date: June 5, 2014Applicant: Cryovac, Inc.Inventors: Parimal M. Vadhar, Larry B. McAllister, JR., XiaoJun Li

Publication number: 20120211150Abstract: The present invention includes a film having at least one outer layer comprising a glycol-modified polyester and a N,N?-bis(fatty) amide. In a further aspect, embodiments of the present invention include methods for preparing oriented films having an outer layer comprising a glycol-modified polyester and a N,N?-bis(fatty) amide. In one aspect, the present invention includes a method for the concurrent transverse orientation of two films having outer layers that each comprise a blend of a glycol-modified polyester and a N,N?-bis(fatty) amide. Further aspects provide for the machine direction orientation of having an outer layer comprising a glycol-modified polyester and a N,N?-bis(fatty) amide.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 18, 2011Publication date: August 23, 2012Inventors: Larry B. McAllister, JR., Jimmy Lee Adkins, III
