The lighting assembly includes a rechargeable power source and a lighting element. The device includes a depending skirt extending from the housing and defining a recess. A photovoltaic collector is operably connected to the lighting assembly. The skirt is inserted into an opening in the pumpkin, gourd or the like, and the lighting element illuminates the interior of the pumpkin, gourd or the like. The photovoltaic collector recharges the rechargeable power source when exposed to ambient light.
