  • Patent number: 9938827
Abstract: A ground breaking machine has a housing and the housing has oppositely disposed end plates which have aligned axial female openings and matching male plate portions positioned in the female openings. The female opening is defined by a side edge having top and oppositely disposed vertical spaced apart side edge portions. Each of the vertical side edge portions terminate in a laterally inwardly extending portion having an upperwardly extending hook portion engageable with a downwardly extending hook portion on the male plate portion for interlocking the female and male hook portions to prevent separation thereof and separation of the male plate portion in the female opening. The method of assembly and mounting the cutter drum in the housing includes the steps of providing a housing having oppositely disposed end plates including aligned axial openings and matching male plate portions for being positioned in the female openings.

  • Patent number: 8176990
Abstract: A device for removing obstructions from a work site. The device is attachable to the front of a work machine. The device comprises a frame, a flange, a rotatable cutting member supported on the flange, and a motor that rotates the cutting member. The flange is non-rotatable, but is movable along at least one length relative to the frame. The motor may be supported on the flange. The device further comprises a plurality of removably attachable blocking members for decreasing the range of travel of debris generated during operation of the cutting member. The rotatable cutting member is movable about three axes relative to the flange such that changes in conditions or temperatures do not cause the cutting member to break.

  • Patent number: 7472869
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for compensating for small variations in balance and alignment when supporting and rotating a massive cylindrical drum. The apparatus comprises a self-aligning flange having projections spaced 90° apart about the circumference, or rim, of the flange. The projections are inserted into sliding relationship with elongate slots within a fixed supporting frame so that the plane of the self-aligning flange is allowed to dynamically adjust to small oscillations or movements of the centerline of the rotating drum as it rotates.

  • Patent number: 5259692
Abstract: An earth working apparatus comprising a wheeled vehicle capable of traversing the ground and a ground breaking assembly mounted on the front end of such vehicle, such ground breaking assembly comprising a cylinder mounted for movement with the vehicle and for rotation about its cylinder axis, such cylinder having teeth projecting from its cylinder surface; the ground breaking assembly also having a shield partially surrounding the cylinder and provided on its inner surface close to the cylinder with fracture boards against which large pieces of pavement, frozen earth or stone impact, thereby causing such large pieces to fragment.

  • Patent number: 5203729
Abstract: An auger-driven remotely controllable amphibious vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle includes a buoyant hull in the general configuration of a speedboat. An auger is mounted for rotation along each side of the vehicle. The generally cylindrical augers with helical screws are nested closely in approximately quarter-cylinder recesses formed along the lower sides of the hull at the waterline so that a considerable portion of the water moved by the augers is contained in the narrow spaces between the augers and the hull, and is then thrust directly rearward (or forward) for increased efficiency in propulsion. A propulsion mechanism and other components are preferably mounted in the center of the vehicle for balance. The vehicle preferably includes control apparatus and signal receiving apparatus for remote operation.

  • Patent number: 5203274
Abstract: A buoyant boat hull of an amphibious vehicle has concave, quarter cylinder recesses along the sides down from the waterline, such recesses receiving the upper inboard quadrants of helical augers. The recesses confine water between the screw threads and project it directly to the rear for more efficient forward thrust. The engine and pumps for the hydraulic motors are mounted on a slide to be moved forward and aft as desired to shift the center of gravity and aid in transition between land and water travel.
