Abstract: A method of operating an image scanning system including an image scanner, a network adapter and a memory associated with the image scanner and/or the network adapter. The method including the steps of storing a list of one or more computers that are registered to interact with the image scanner in the memory and selecting one computer from the list of computers as a destination for scanned data and locking out all other computers from interacting with the image scanner until the scanned data is communicated to the selected one computer.

Abstract: A method and system of operating a multi-function imaging machine, includes the steps of: providing the multi-function imaging machine with a printer section, a fax section, a modem associated with the fax section, and a first processing means coupled with each of the printer section, the fax section and the modem; providing a computer coupled with the multi-function imaging machine, the computer including a second processing means coupled with the multi-function imaging machine; generating AT commands with the second processing means; transmitting the AT commands from the second processing means to the modem; connecting the modem with a remote modem; transmitting a query from the second processing means to the remote modem; and receiving a response to the query from the remote modem at the second processing means.

Abstract: In a system comprising a computer in communication with a multi-function imaging machine having a printer section and a fax section, and a user input device, a method of operating the multi-function imaging machine, comprising the steps of setting one or more fax settings; providing a fax settings lock for user selection; and locking fax settings for said fax section using said fax settings lock when selected. The fax settings, which include at least one of speed dial settings, group settings and junk fax list, can be provided for viewing on the computer as read-only values while allowing for additions to said speed dial settings, group settings and junk fax list from said computer.

Abstract: A method and system of deskewing an image. The method and system includes capturing a first image, forming a number of regions within the first image, generating a bounding rectangles for each region, calculating an area for each bounding rectangle, rotating each region by an angle within a predefined range, finding the angle that minimizes the area of each bounding rectangle, and rotating each region by the angle found.
