  • Patent number: 11056009
Abstract: Techniques are described for the exchange of control signals between a controlled unmanned aircraft (i.e. drone) and a ground control station and for the transmission of communication signals, such as video, from the drone to the ground control station so that the signals are more difficult to intercept or jam. The video signal transmitted from the drone can be an analog RF signal employing one or more of video “scrambling”, RF signal inversion, hopping, usage of a wide frequency range and other techniques. To secure the control signals between the drone and the ground control station, techniques can include hopping, encryption and use of a wide frequency range.

  • Publication number: 20060274194
Abstract: A method and apparatus for an analog-to-digital video signal converter. The converter is controlled by a clock with controllable frequency and phase for sampling an analog signal. A circuit corrects the clock frequency using a period of a columnar frame differences as a function of columnar location. The sampling clock frequency is changed by an amount dependent on the period of the columnar differences. A second measure of the difference between successive frames is computed for a sequence of clock phases. The frequency of the clock is verified using a characteristic of the second measure. The characteristic can be the ratio of the maximum to the minimum of the second measure over selected clock phases. Other characteristics can be used such as a difference of a maximum and a minimum measure.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for an analog-to-digital video signal converter. The converter is controlled by a clock with controllable frequency and phase for sampling an analog signal. A measure of the difference between successive frames of the image is computed for a sequence of clock phases. The measure can be a count taken over pixels of the magnitude of the difference between a pixel in one frame and the corresponding pixel in a following frame exceeding a threshold value. The frequency of the clock is verified using a characteristic of the frame difference. The characteristic can be the ratio of the maximum measure to the minimum measure over the selected clock phases. Other characteristics can be used such as a difference of a maximum and a minimum measure.

  • Patent number: 6378362
Abstract: This invention provides saturated and unsaturated Vadose zone remote sample acquisition and in-situ contaminant character identification. The invention is addressed to the management of the Vadose zone. Matters of interest to the agricultural community may include, in addition to other factors, the quantity of nutrients in the saturated zone and the existence of contaminants and the potential for loss of nutrients to the unsaturated zone. Matters of interest to facilities engaging in pollution, toxic or other contaminant detection will be the presence of such contaminants in both the saturated and unsaturated zones and additionally of the transit of contaminants into the unsaturated zone having potential of interaction with the water table.

  • Patent number: 6145600
Abstract: A soil sampling apparatus comprising a cylindrical body having an upper end, a lower end, and an egress aperture located along the cylindrical body proximal the lower end. The apparatus further includes a handle connected to the upper end of the cylindrical body for manual positioning and securing the apparatus while in use. The apparatus further includes a base plate with an aperture therein for receiving the cylindrical body at the lower end. The cylindrical body is secured to the base plate and extends a distance through the aperture of the base plate, thereby defining a probe. A shaft may be connected to an auger and positioned within the cylindrical body for upward and downward movement therein. A drill may be used for rotating the shaft and auger. The apparatus further includes a receptacle comprising an ingress aperture. The receptacle may be joined to the cylindrical body, the ingress aperture juxtaposed the egress aperture.
