  • Patent number: 5445831
Abstract: Psyllium husk comprising particle sizes distributed such that: less than about 15% is larger than about 80 mesh, at least about 45% is within the range of from about 80 mesh to about 200 mesh, and less than about 40% is smaller than about 200 mesh. In addition, psyllium-containing products for oral administration comprising small particle size psyllium husk according to the present invention are described.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 21, 1993
Date of Patent: August 29, 1995
Assignee: The Procter & Gamble Company
Inventors: Paul D. Leis, Jr, Larry E. Burns, Karen R. Hafer
  • Patent number: 5234687
Abstract: Unflavored psyllium husk-containing drink mix compositions are prepared consisting essentially of small particle size psyllium husk comprising less than about 10% of psyllium husk having particle sizes larger than about 60 mesh screen, less than about 2.0% edible acid, and sugar. Such compositions are unflavored so as to permit mixing small particle size psyllium, which is readily suspended in a liquid without a gritty texture, with a broader selection of liquids, such as milk and fruit drinks, without rapid gelling of the psyllium husk.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 21, 1991
Date of Patent: August 10, 1993
Assignee: The Procter & Gamble Company
Inventors: Melvin A. Barbera, Larry E. Burns, Amy M. Martini
  • Patent number: 5224655
Abstract: Processes for selectively comminuting impure psyllium seed husk. These processes comprise milling impure psyllium seed husk in a mill which causes the husk to be fragmented by collision under conditions whereby the mean particle size of the husk material is reduced relatively more than the mean particle size of the non-husk material. In addition, processes for purifying selectively comminuted psyllium seed husk are described.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 24, 1992
Date of Patent: July 6, 1993
Assignee: The Proctor & Gamble Company
