  • Patent number: 5069762
Abstract: An apparatus for use in a radial cell-type electrodeposition cell having a radial cathodic conductor roll with a central conductor band for improving the transfer of electric current between the to be plated strip and the conductor band. The apparatus includes a holddown roll which contacts the strip proximate the contact point of the strip and the conductor roll prior to the entry of the strip into the electrolyte bath and a second holddown roll which contacts the strip after the strip has exited from the electrolyte bath. The holddown rolls urge the strip uniformly against the conductor band to improve current transfer to the strip.

  • Patent number: 4822457
Abstract: A method is provided for eliminating a fern-like pattern on metal strip being electroplated with metal or metal-alloy coatings. The method includes contacting the to be plated surface of the strip with sufficient additional electrolyte solution to substantially eliminate non-uniformity of a film carried thereon from a prior treatment, such additional electrolyte being in contact with said surface for at least 0.1 second prior to and continuing until arrival of said surface at a point directly facing the adjacent edge of a first electrically energized anode within an electrolytic cell for the plating thereof.

  • Patent number: 4540472
Abstract: In the electrodeposition of iron-zinc alloy coatings, a lustrous, adherent iron-zinc coating containing 10-20% iron is achieved over a current density range of 400-1600 amps/ft.sup.2 and line speeds of 100-500 ft/min. by employing an electrolyte maintained at a temperature of 130.degree. to 160.degree. F. which contains FeCl.sub.2, ZnCl.sub.2, KCl, K.sub.2 SO.sub.4, a chelating agent such as citric acid, and a minor amount of an adduct composed primarily of polyalkylene glycols.
