Publication number: 20140360665Abstract: A unitary reflector system and methods for forming that include a reflector and support structure. These two structures can form a single unitary structure. Such a reflector system can be constructed from composite laminate materials that are laid up or formed in during a single manufacturing process. The composite support structure can be formed on the back of the reflector using standard laminate techniques. An extractable tool, can include a rigid core, one or more foam blocks, which may be shape a memory polymer foam, an elastic membrane, and a nozzle. The foam blocks can be shaped to provide a mold of the composite structure being manufactured. This mold may require the extractable tool to be trapped by the composite structure after manufacture. Patent number: 6196908Abstract: A diamond coated drill capable of drilling large holes in composite materials and then reaming the holes to their correct size includes a pair of prongs extending from a shank. Each of the prongs has a tip, a grinder, and a reamer. The tips initiate a hole, the grinders gradually grind the hole to the proper size, and the reamers control the final diameter of the hole. The tips have a coarse grit diamond coating. The grinders also have a coarse grit diamond coating and are axially tapered toward the tips. The reamers have a fine grit diamond coating and are disposed axially above the grinders and the shank of the drill. The grinders apply a radial load to the composite material resulting in no fiber breakout or splintering. Patent number: 5354155Abstract: A diamond coated drill bit capable of drilling small holes and then reaming the holes to their correct size. The tapered tip of the drill bit has a coarse diamond grit coating which enables it to initiate a hole. The drill bit then gradually grinds the hole to the proper size with a grinder having coarse diamond grit bonded to its surface which is at a predetermined taper. The final diameter of the hole is controlled by using a fine grit diamond reamer above the tapered grinder portion. The grinder applies a radial load to the composite material resulting in no fiber breakout or splintering.
