  • Patent number: 5710713
Abstract: A method of creating a library of standardized spectral data and identifying a sample by searching the standardized library for a match with the sample spectrum. The method entails determining and applying a transfer function which equalizes instrument bias between instruments and within the same instruments over time. A transfer function is specific to a particular instrument, and is based on the relationship between a reference spectrum of a standard as stored in a library and a spectrum of the standard obtained on the particular instrument of interest. This method provides enhanced library searching capabilities.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 18, 1996
Date of Patent: January 20, 1998
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Larry G. Wright, Mark A. LaPack, Wayne W. Blaser, Kenneth R. Beebe, Mary A. Leugers
  • Patent number: 5545895
Abstract: A method of correcting for instrumental changes that influence the spectral response of a mass spectrometer over time. The method entails determining and applying a transfer function which equalizes instrument bias between mass spectrometers and within the same mass spectrometer over time. A transfer function is specific to a particular mass spectrometer, and is based on the relationship between a reference spectrum of a standard as stored in a library and a spectrum of the standard obtained on the particular mass spectrometer of interest. This method facilitates and simplifies recalibration, provides enhanced library searching capabilities for mass spectrometry, and may permit concentration determination from mass spectral data without the need to recalibrate an instrument with multiple standards.

  • Patent number: 4775400
Abstract: An improved fiber glass bushing control system. One aspect of the system has a weighing means for weighing complete collections of glass fiber strands produced from forming from a bushing through attenuation, a monitoring means for the time of attenuation at constant strand speed and a program computer means that receives signals from the weighing means and the monitoring means. The program computer means has a means for establishing a database of the weights and times, a means for determining the throughput of the glass from the bushing from the weights and times, a means for determining average throughputs and including these averages in the database, a means for comparing the average throughputs to a standard set throughput, and a means for initiating an adjustment to the main bushing temperature controller, when the average throughput deviates from the set point throughput by a value greater than the sensitivity factor of the bushing.

Inventors: Larry G. Wright, John J. Kuhn
  • Patent number: 4546485
Abstract: A method of equalizing production on a split fiber glass forming bushing is described involving averaging the temperature measured across a bushing face plate, and controlling the power input to the bushing in response to that measured average. The two halves of the bushing are controlled by placing a variable resistor in the power supply lines to the bushing and adjusting current input to the sides in response to variations in weight or yardage measured for the two strands produced by the split bushing.

  • Patent number: 4193032
Abstract: An apparatus for pulsing a high speed transmitter having pulser delay times in the nanosecond range. The combination of solid state and spark gap devices provide protection against high voltage arcs for both transient and power follow-through conditions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 8, 1969
Date of Patent: March 11, 1980
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air Force
Inventors: Walter E. Milberger, Larry G. Wright
  • Patent number: 4187458
Abstract: A switching regulator capable of performing open-loop functions. The inhet nature of the circuit provides a constant power translation regulator with short circuit dropout protection. Normal voltage or current regulation may be obtained by utilizing a control winding provided for that purpose. A free-running or locked blocking oscillator circuit in combination with a pulse width controlled switching regulator sustains its own drive and regulation functions. Measured efficiencies from 90 to 99 percent are obtainable with both resistive and line modulator type loads.
