Patent number: 6739885Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes a pin header 10 that can be mounted in an opening 4 in an electrically conductive case 2. The pin header 10 includes a molded pin header housing 12 that can be used in unfiltered as well as filtered and shielded versions. The filtered and shielded versions include a ground shield 20 or 50 that includes segmented cantilever tangs 26 or 56 extending along peripheral edges of the shield member 20 or 50. These tangs 26 or 58 mechanically grip the electrically conductive case 2 to establish ground continuity. One version of the ground shield 20 can be mounted on a printed circuit board to which filter capacitors 40 are soldered.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2002Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Assignee: Tyco Electronics CorporationInventors: Bobby Gene Ward, Larry George Novotny, David Allen Klein, Michael Henry Banas

Patent number: 6659783Abstract: Electrical connectors (40, 104) including contact terminals that can be unmated without previously disconnecting power include main contacts (12, 112) and auxiliary contacts (16, 130) that are shunted by a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) resistor (6, 140) located between the main and auxiliary contact. The main contact (12, 112) will be disconnected first and the auxiliary contact (16, 130) can be longer than the main contact (12, 112). Arcing will not occur at the mating end of the main contact (12, 112), because the current will be shunted to the still connected longer auxiliary contact (16, 130). I2R heating will increase the resistance in the PTC resistor (6, 140), so when the auxiliary contact (16, 130) is disconnected, current will be below the arcing threshold.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2001Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: Tyco Electronics CorpInventors: Charles Dudley Copper, Henry O. Herrmann, Jr., Randy Thomas Matthews, Larry George Novotny, Jeremy Patterson, Norbert Krause, Horst Teutschlaender

Multiple latches 54A, B and 60A, B or 180 and 196 permit only discontinuous mating of electrical connectors, so that the connectors can be disconnected without arcing for a range of currents.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2001Publication date: February 6, 2003Inventors: Charles Dudley Cooper, Henry O. Publication number: 20030014656Abstract: A method, computer program product, and data processing system, with which a unified security policy may be implemented using existing application components with disparate security mechanisms and user registries is disclosed. The present invention provides a generic application programming interface (API) that forms a framework for creating registry adapters. Registry adapters allow a policy director (an item of software for imposing a sitewide security policy) to operate with new or unfamiliar registry types by acting as a drop-in translator for converting generic registry-access commands into operations specific to the particular registry in question.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2001Publication date: January 16, 2003Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Michael Bradford Ault, Garry Lee Child, Larry George Fichtner, Dah-Haur Lin

Publication number: 20030005297Abstract: A method and system for sharing existing user and group registry information between heterogeneous application servers is provided. The method and system make use of an adapter that communicates with each registry associated with each application server through a registry communication mechanism. In a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides an additional application-specific database to protect application-specific data that is required for each application server's operation but is not part of an existing database registry. Both the application-specific databases and existing user and group definitions in a user and group registry form a new registry abstraction which is required for each application server. As a result, each application server automatically shares user and group definitions with the existing database server. Furthermore, both the database server and each application server maintain a centralized user and group management model across different application domains.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2001Publication date: January 2, 2003Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Larry George Fichtner, Dah-Haur Lin

Patent number: 6356892Abstract: A method of hierarchical LDAP searching in an LDAP directory service having a relational database management system (DBMS) as a backing store. The method begins by parsing an LDAP filter-based query for elements and logical operators of the filter query. For each filter element, the method generates an SQL subquery according to a set of translation rules. For each SQL subquery, the method then generates a set of entry identifiers for the LDAP filter query. Then, the SQL subqueries are combined into a single SQL query according to a set of combination rules chosen corresponding to the logical operators of the LDAP filter query.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1998Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Cynthia Fleming Corn, Larry George Fichtner, Rodolfo Augusto Mancisidor, Shaw-Ben Shi

Patent number: 6085188Abstract: A method of hierarchical LDAP searching in an LDAP directory service having a relational database management system (DBMS) as a backing store. According to the invention, entries in a naming hierarchy are mapped into first and second relational tables: a parent table, and a descendant table. These tables are used to "filter" lists of entries returned from a search to ensure that only entries within a given search scope are retained for evaluation. Thus, for example, the parent table is used during an LDAP one level search, and the descendant table is used during an LDAP subtree search. In either case, use of the parent or descendant table obviates recursive queries through the naming directory.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1998Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: David W. Patent number: 5769645Abstract: An input/output electrical connector header 102 includes at least two rows of terminal pins 140 which can be connected to two separate printed circuit boards 106 and 108. The same header 102 provides input and output for both printed circuit boards 106, 108. The terminal pins 140 in each of the rows extend through openings 130 in the same header housing wall 126. A separable interconnection is made between pins in a second terminal row and a second printed circuit board 108 at the rear of the header 102. This separate connection can be established by a separate multiposition connector 114, 214, 314 or 414 containing receptacle contacts 116, 216, 316, 416 respectively. In other embodiments, this separate connector 514, 614, 714 and 1214, includes the terminal pins in the second terminal row in the separate connector.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1997Date of Patent: June 23, 1998Assignee: The Whitaker CorporationInventors: Galen Monroe Martin, Larry George Novotny, Donald Kent Hughes, Samuel Garner Bouse, Jr.

Patent number: RE28803Abstract: An electronic control logic system for processing the results of a spectrophotometer analysis of a serum chemistry comprised of a serum and one or more chemical reagents. The spectrophotometer output representing air as a light path and another output representing the test chemistry as a light path are integrated and the air path integrated value allowed to exponentially decay until its value is equal to that of the integrated test chemistry path value. The decay time is converted into a train of digital pulses representative of the optical density of the test chemistry. These pulses are counted and their total stored for comparison with the corresponding optical density of a standard solution. The concentration of the element for which the particular test was designed to detect is known for the standard solution, so the percentage concentration of that element in the test chemistry may be thereby ascertained.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1975Date of Patent: May 4, 1976Assignee: American Monitor CorporationInventors: Larry George Durkos, Robert Wayne Cole, Jerry William Denney
