Patent number: 11686319Abstract: A blower can be positioned in a wellbore. The blower rotatably drives or is driven by a fluid produced through the well bore. An electric machine can be positioned downhole of the blower, the electric machine configured to rotatably drive or be driven by the blower. A bearing shaft couples the blower and the electric machine. The bearing shaft transfers rotation between the blower and the electric machine. A passive magnetic radial bearing assembly magnetically supports the bearing shaft.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2019Date of Patent: June 27, 2023Assignee: Upwing Energy, Inc.Inventors: Alexei Filatov, Larry Hawkins

Patent number: 11572920Abstract: This disclosure describes a system for sending control signals and receiving sensor signals over cables at long distances. Electric currents and signals traveling down long cables can undergo phenomenon that are not present in relatively short cables. Therefore, this disclosure contemplates solutions for overcoming or compensating for these phenomenon to enable control of an electric machine using long cables. The solutions can include a signal conditioning circuit, configured to output a DC current corresponding to the sensed voltage associated with the sensor, a first conductor, that transmits the DC current from the signal conditioning circuit to the controller, and a signal generator, configured to receive the command signals and generate pulse width modulated (PWM) actuating signals based on the command signals.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2021Date of Patent: February 7, 2023Assignee: Calnetix Technologies, LLCInventors: Rasish Khatri, Alexei Filatov, Larry Hawkins

Patent number: 6071092Abstract: A vacuum pump has a back-up bearing assembly for allowing its rotor to spin down safely without damaging the pump if the primary bearing system becomes disabled. The drive shaft of the rotor is tubular and contains the back-up bearing assembly in its hollow interior. Back-up bearings are mounted onto a tubular center shaft which is coaxial with and inside the drive shaft. An axial position sensor is nested inside the center shaft and light emitted from its light emitter is reflected by a reflective target inside the drive shaft to detect the relative axial position of the drive shaft with respect to the center shaft. A polymer sleeve is attached to the end of the drive shaft as a thermal compensator, which restricts the axial movement of the drive shaft.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1998Date of Patent: June 6, 2000Assignee: Varian, Inc.Inventors: Fausto Casaro, Larry Hawkins, Patrick McMullen, Crawford Meeks, Don O'Leary
