  • Patent number: 6866457
Abstract: A decorative cap and wheel nut or bolt insert assembly, and a method of assembling them. The insert is coated and/or plated and includes a hex-shaped section and a section having a circular cylindrical outer surface. A cap includes a hex cross-section segment and a circular cylindrical cross-section segment. The hex cross-section segment of the cap slips easily over the hex section of the insert while the circular cylindrical cross-section segment has a smaller ID than the OD of the circular cylindrical insert section. The cap is formed of sheet material which is both plastically and elastically deformable. When pressed onto the insert, the cap deforms both plastically and elastically. An interference fit is formed between them by radial plastic deformation of the cap.

  • Publication number: 20040170485
Abstract: The fastener assembly comprises a torquing member and a clamping pressure member assembled together on a common access. The torquing member has annual threads formed around the axis. An annular bearing surface extends around the axis on one end of the member. The clamping pressure member has an annular bearing surface formed around the axis on one end and an annular clamping surface extending around the axis on an opposite end. The annular bearing surface of the torquing member includes a first series of helically inclined surface segments having substantially the same pitch axis as the threads and a second series of helically inclined surface segments having the same pitch axis as the threads but a pitch equal to or greater than that of the threads, with an opposite incline.

  • Publication number: 20030194294
Abstract: A wheel nut and washer assembly for securing a wheel to a motor vehicle axle. The wheel nut includes a body having a longitudinal axis, the nut body also having an axial threaded aperture and a pair of ends, one end being in the form of a smooth steel external surface. The wheel nut also includes a steel washer having an end terminating in a smooth annular surface in surface-to-surface engagement with the body end thereby maintaining axially alignment of the body and washer enabling relative movement of said body and washer about said axis. A decorative cap on the assembly is configured so that it holds the washer on the nut, a gap between the cap and washer to enable the washer to freely rotate and move laterally relative to the nut.

  • Patent number: 6102488
Abstract: A wheelnut for securing a wheel to a motor vehicle axle. The wheelnut includes a body having a longitudinal axis, the nut body also having an axial threaded aperture and a pair of ends, one end being in the form of a conical external surface and the other end has wrench flats facilitating the application of torque forces through the wrench flats to the nut body. The wheel has a nut seat surface configured to receive the conical external surface in surface-to-surface engagement, so that a clamping force of increasing magnitude will be applied to the wheel at the seat in response to the application of torque force on the wheel nut.

  • Patent number: 6074148
Abstract: An improved capped wheelnut of the type including a nut body having a central threaded aperture and a pair of ends, one end being adapted to engage a wheel, and a cap for said nut body at the other end. The cap has an end wall and a continuous side wall which terminates intermediate the ends of said nut body in an annular edge, an insulating washer constructed of material having low heat conductivity, said washer being of annular ring shape and positioned on said nut adjacent the lower end of said cap, a portion of said cap being engaged with said washer so as to maintain said washer in engagement with said nut body so that it will not fall off the nut.

  • Patent number: 5307998
Abstract: An economical apparatus and method for reprocessing scrap film. The apparatus includes a film-air separation chamber for separating air from incoming strips of scrap film, a cutter for cutting the strips into fine pieces, and a storage tank or further reprocessing means to which the cut pieces of scrap film are conveyed. A air bypass line having a computer-controlled valve conveys air directly from the film-air separation chamber to the cutter outlet when the valve is in an open position, and causes all of the air to flow into the cutter inlet when the valve is in a closed position. The open or closed position of the air bypass valve depends upon the cutter motor power, which varies as the volume of scrap film in the cutter varies. Due to the inclusion of the accurately controlled air bypass valve, only a single fan is needed to convey the film into and out of both the film-air separation chamber and the cutter.

  • Patent number: 5002084
Abstract: A rotary valve and associated method of cleaning, including a generally cylindrical housing (104) defining a central axis, and a rotatable shaft (106) mounted in a first end plate (130) of the housing for rotation by a drive system (108) operating adjacent the first end plate. A vane rotor (102) is connectable to the shaft in an operating position entirely within the housing for transmitting the rotation of the shaft about the axis to the vanes (140) of the rotor. The rotor is selectively axially displaceable relative to the shaft, into a cleaning position entirely outside the housing. This is facilitated by the mounting of the rotor to the other, second end plate (110), such that the disassembly of the second end plate from the housing and the axial displacement thereof away from the first end plate, also displaces the rotor.
