    Abstract: A motor bearing for an electric submersible motor is described. An electric submersible motor includes a rotatable motor shaft extending longitudinally through a submersible motor, a bearing sleeve secured to the rotatable motor shaft in between two adjacent rotor sections, a motor bearing radially outward from the bearing sleeve and pressed against a stator bore, wherein the motor bearing comprises a series of magnets dispersed around an outer diameter of the motor bearing, and an insulation layer covering a surface of each magnet of the series of magnets, wherein the insulation layer faces the stator bore. A motor bearing includes a series of recessions dispersed around an outer axial surface of a motor bearing, a magnet inset in each recession of the series of recessions, and an insulation layer coating a surface of each of the magnets.

An electric submersible pump (ESP) system for pumping solid-laden fluid comprises a thrust chamber of an ESP seal section, the thrust chamber sealed from well fluid on a downstream side by a stationary sand barrier and on an upstream side by a mechanical seal, the thrust chamber further comprising, a rotatable shaft extending axially through the thrust chamber, a head tubularly encasing the thrust chamber and threadedly coupled to a centrifugal pump intake, and a diamond-coated hydrodynamic bearing set inside the thrust chamber, wherein well fluid enters and exits the chamber through cross-drilled apertures in the head of the chamber, and wherein the well fluid forms a hydrodynamic film between the bearing set.

A thrust-absorbing horizontal surface pump system includes an intake chamber including a stationary thrust bearing paired with a rotatable thrust runner to form a thrust bearing set, wherein a first face of the stationary thrust bearing positioned towards the rotatable thrust runner is at least partially diamond-coated, and wherein a second face of the rotatable thrust runner positioned towards the stationary thrust bearing is at least partially diamond-coated, a fluid entrance that receives a fluid into the intake chamber, and a pump inlet that receives the fluid into the multi-stage centrifugal pump, wherein the thrust bearing set is arranged around the intake shaft such that during operation of the electric motor the thrust bearing is in a pathway of the fluid as the fluid flows between the fluid entrance and the pump inlet.

    Abstract: Arrangements are described wherein fluid is supplied under pressure to lubricate and replenish the fluid film located between the rotating, inner bearing sleeve and the outer, stationary sleeve insert of the bearing assemblies of a motor. The sleeve insert is provided with fluid metering passages that permit lubricating fluid to pass through the body of the sleeve insert. The sleeve insert is disposed radially within a sleeve insert holder, and a fluid gap is defined between the two components. During operation, vibration of the rotor shaft within the stator bore is damped by the fluid spring created by the metering of fluid through the sleeve insert. As a result, friction is reduced and the lifespan of the motor increased.

    Abstract: An electric motor having a rotatable shaft centrally located within a cylindrical stator bore in a housing. A first retaining ring engages the shaft, and a rotor stack is supported axially slidably on the shaft. A second retaining ring engages the shaft above the rotor stack and is positioned a distance above the rotor stack to allow for free thermal expansion of the rotor stack. A spring locates between one of the retaining rings and the shaft to bias the rotor stack against the other retainer ring.
